When we were together I always called him Gary.  Unless my eyes were rolling back into my head and then I doubt any words would have been understandable.  I reserve the words sir or maam for times when I cannot cuss at clients.  He has told me I would occasionally call him sir in a masochistic state.  But.. lol as I said for me sir is a replacement cuss word.  Adding words like master to my lexicon to validate either one of us is just too foreign to me.
He knew what his role was.  And anyone who saw me with him knew what a treasure he was in my life.
Besides..lol.. what would he have called me?  This is my slut?

At my age, I just feel funny calling him my boyfriend for some reason. At work, I usually refer to him as my 'male' friend who I care about a great deal or talk about him using his name.

Even in my head calling Him my boyfriend feels weird, kind of high schoolish in a way.

This made me laugh.  After my fella and I spent time together and decided to continue to do so, and made some plans for future visits, I jokingly said, "Does this mean we're going steady?"  He just laughed at me and said "yes, silly girl".

Greetings Cali,

That's great - whenever SJ refers to me to our friends as his girlfriend, I usually ask the first moment we're alone "So, can we neck?".  It generally receives a "har har har" as the reply.

I generally just say Jamie in front of nilla folk or 'the one' - it gets the concept across without having to go into any great detail as to our relationship.  For lifestyle intros and comments, he prefers I refer to him as "the one I serve", so really I've just shortened his take on it.  Gotta agree with velvetslave, 'boyfriend" just makes me feel like I'm in high school again.

well wishes ~ fairer than she

I can't call Daddy my boyfriend, I just can't!!  I call him "my guy" when I can't refer to him as "Daddy".  I also call him by his scene name, Max, which has been kinda funny around people who were introduced to him by his given name.  I just tell them it's a nickname he goes by.  Our relationship isn't a romantic one so boyfriend is just wrong to me.

Isn't it funny how "grown up" we become and yet certain words can just take us back?  i usually ask if we can just go make out, which usually gets a very graphic response of better ways to use my mouth!    End of hijack!

I'm just the opposite: calling him Master feels kind of ridiculous. He's my beloved, my heart, my everything. There's no one word that could ever encompass what he is to me. To others, I call him my beloved or my boyfriend, or, depending on how much he's getting on my nerves that day, His Highness. To his face, I call him beloved, my love, or baby. He calls me his girl or girlfriend to others, and baby to my face. (He so rarely uses my name that I'm always taken aback when he does.) It's pretty much only in bed, when he's feeling extra-dommy, that he makes me call him Master, and he's usually calling me a whore then, so... ; )

I got lucky in that I call him Daddy while at home, all the time. For example, I come home and ask the kids, "where's Daddy?" etc. I haven't had any trouble outside of the house calling him by his name, but when we have other people over, it can be hard to call him by anything other than Daddy. But really, I don't think anyone that knows us would be shocked if they heard me call him Daddy. Most would just blush, roll their eyes, and make some kind of comment about him giving me a spanking. They have no idea! Ha!

mama asked me what i call TheEngineer, after she heard him call me kitty.  (which is nothing close to my actual given name.)

i told her "i call him (his name) or pookie or sometimes BigDaddy."  she laughed.  i was telling the truth.  i also call him a few things that earn me swats, but those are generally when he's tormenting me.

I call him his name, my partner or my boyfriend, in public, it doesnt feel od, sometimes i slip up but thats ok. Just because we use the D/s terms too doesnt mean that he isnt my partner.

Yeah, it feels weird to say 'boyfriend' but I tried using 'The Guy I Wash the Skid-Marks Outta His Underwear For" but my co-worker thought that was too much information.  I was just trying to imply a sense of intimacy.......

The way I see it, "husband" is interchangeable with "Master" because, to me, they are one and the same.

well wishes,

In many languages (and cultures) they are indeed interchangeable; rather, in some languages, the same word can mean "husband" or "master". Hebrew, for exampe, with "ba'al", and many of the languages of India, with "swami" or "pati", among others. (And, err, contrary to what certain cartoons and classified ads might lead us to think, "swami" doesn't mean fortuneteller, it does mean "master", and is used of husbands, owners, spiritual leaders, etc.)

So, you see, we're the ones who are following tradition and nature; it's the vanillas who are perverts and radicals! :-D

I actually like referring to him as my partner, for me it makes more sense in a way. just the term "boyfriend" (for me) has connotations latched onto it.

I use partner. When I don't use husband - we live together, not legeally married, and I really don't care that we aren't, I'm comfortable using 'husband' and he is comfortable using 'wife', so we often do that.

'partner' has several added benifits, to me. It gender confuses people - makes them think i might be lesbain. When I next say 'He', they say, oh, why do you say partner, and I answer, 'because I refuse to refer to a man over thirty as a 'boyfriend'. I think we have outgrown that.

I call my Sir my partner - or my significant other. I don't correct people when they call him my husband. I figure we have been together longer than 30% of marriages, so what the hell!
I can't call him my boyfriend - that seems too insignificant for what he means to me. When i think of some of my boyfriends, it REALLY doesn't apply!!!!!

Since he is 67 years old, it would feel strange to refer to him as my 'boy'friend.  Depending on the situation, he is introduced as my friend or my SO.

I like the "the man that owns my heart" line.

Doms can use"the woman/man of my dreams."  No need to mention WHAT dreams.
