VampiresLair -> Chest Harnesses (10/25/2008 10:08:45 AM)

I have looked around, but I have not found many of these to my liking. Now, I am on my do it yourself kick, and figure I can make one on my own! Ok, great, but I have found zilch by way of instructions. Finding how to build furniture, easy, clothing, not so easy.
I have seen a  few rope harness directions which I plan on trying out eventually, but most of those are geared towards women. Or, more appropriately, geared towards breasts. Fox doesnt have breasts, so the ties dont stay where they should. I can eventually figure out how to adjust them, but for now, im still harnessless.

Anyone have any ideas on how to make my own? I have considered hitting a craft store once I have some extra cash and getting belt making kits, and just seeing what I can do that way. Any other ideas? I know nothing yet about leatherworking but I am sure rivets and the like cant be that difficult.

Thanks :)

Chest Harnesses actually aren't all that difficult. I too started with latigo belt blanks, stainless steel chain, and either Chicago Screws or Rivets. Snaps can be used as well.

I have found though that for me I prefer garment weight leather triple folded and stitched to reinforce the strap itself, to leave no unfinished edges, and it's much more comfortable and flexible. To me it looks better on most body types too. But go for the belt blanks and see what you can create.

A great way to practice cheaply is to use broken bicycle tubes and they look great too. The added benefit of the inner tubes is that they stretch, making some designs much more interesting.
