Sure - if both people are committed and honest.
It's a lot better if pictures, webcam and (most importantly) phone are components, though.

Status: offline 		It can work. Usually, it is far more useful for short term arrangements than long term ones, but if both parties are commited then it can be doable. The thing to remember, though, on both sides, is that at any point, one party can decide that they are done and just walk away.

Status: offline 		I've tried it with several men.  Didn't work so well with most of them.  I do have one that is still working out quite well.   'Wall-e' was one of the first people I started talking to on CM and he is still with me.  I think it just takes a very special understanding between the partners to make it work.  And yes, we do speak on the phone periodically.

Online domination and online slave training can work depending on the slave and the effort the slave puts into the training. When we train slaves we use email, online, mail, video, chat, phone and in person. Some of the slaves we own during or after their training, and lots of slaves have stayed willingly for months and many have wanted to stay owned for years. Online training is just like anything else in life; it works if you put your mind to it.

My Mistress and I have a largely online relationship -- she lives in the US and I'm in the UK.  We've been together for sixteen months, during which time we've met twice; more recently, we've started to use the phone a bit more, as I now get free off-peak calls to the US.  We do *a lot* of typing at each other: we're on IRC together for several hours each day.

Anyway, enough of my life story.  Online domination can work very well but make sure that both parties know what they want from the experience and that it's the same thing.  The advantage of doing it online is that the initial barrier of meeting somebody and admitting to them that you're kinky is much lower.  The disadvantage is that the rest of the communication is rather harder because there's much less obvious feedback and more scope for misunderstanding.  This is especially the case if you're looking for a longer-term relationship, rather than just a bit of fun.  (And, if the latter, make sure that the other person knows that's all you're looking for.)

I actually enjoy that... I just haven't found anyone who can keep it up for any length of time.

When I did online domination, we did a bit of that, but there were assignments (written and active), I chose what he wore for the day, and had other requirements for him.  We spoke on the phone or did voice chat, and I had ways to observe his actions.  It was a long distance relationship (UK and US), and what I was able to do at the time. 

Some people get off on "cyberchat" only, but the online relationships I had were more involved.
