To preface this I am going to say two things that seem contradictory. First of all I firmly believe that time travel is totally impossible just because of the nature of the concept, because further I believe that all these "special" theories of relativity are wrong. They seem to accept c (the speed of light) as a constant. I reject that. They seem to think an apparent change in c is a warp in time, when proof is all around us that c is not a constant at all. However I find this, fictional in my mind, subject to be very interesting. What if you could go back say fifty years. What would you do ? I would bring certain technical knowledge and whatever, others might be able to make a fortune in the stock market or something. But that's not just it. You could change things drastically, to the point where you were possibly never born, so of course one should be cautious. But if you could do something in the past, what would it be ? Of course you could affect the past in such a way which would negate your existence, but then what happens ? Do you just keep doing it over and over ? I mean if you ceased to exist, then your actions will have never happened, reresulting in your life happening, but then without any changes you would go and do exactly the same thing I would think, which would be an endless loop. Then there is another situation that comes to mind using fifty years as a constant. Many people live longer than fifty years so there is a possibility that you would coexist with your younger self at some point. If you met your former self and had a discussion and changed attitude or belief somehow, the time travel might never have happened. What happens to you then ? I actually wrote a book that deals with some of the finer points, but it is too kinky for this crowd. Things happened and it wasn't all nice. All fictional of course, because at the base of it is my disbelief that it could ever happen, no matter what technology may be involved. I just thought it an interesting subject to muse about. Beats politics. T
