Sounds like Honestreporting.com is an Israeli mouthpiece. Sorry but who is to judge what fair is in this situation?

Those that have a stake in it or those that don't?

As to the other links sanity have you got anything a bit more recent say in the last year? Also tell me which other organisation would commission a bias report into itself?

You know, if you were cute like kitten is I might consider doing the additional research you're requesting of me... [sm=dance.gif]

But you're not... so do it yourself!  [sm=evil.gif]

I have always maintained (and I know how much this is going to mean to you, Sanity) that an opinion without any research into fact, is just a prejudice...

Just sayin'....

Sanity -> RE: Ever Seen A Conservative News Anchor? (10/26/2008 2:49:43 PM)

Yes, I know...  [8|]

And you and kitten could do it yourselves in the same amount of time, and save the humiliation of being proved wrong in the forums in the process, couldn't you.

Real_Trouble -> RE: Ever Seen A Conservative News Anchor? (10/26/2008 3:01:36 PM)

Please note I'm referencing the BBC commentary on American politics, not the BBC commentary on British politics.

I actually think the BBC is quite biased when it comes to England, but that might be because they are locals and can't pull back far enough; their coverage regarding the US is much more clearheaded.  They lean towards liberals currently because, from an objective basis, facts lean towards liberals currently, but I seem to recall in the past that they've had some complimentary things to say about conservatives as well.  I recall a few articles that were quite favorable with regard to the elder Bush, for example.

Point is, they tend to research more and put their foot in their mouth less regarding American politics.  Same trend for the Economist; much less biased American coverage than British coverage.  Certainly better than anything American.  I mean, could you seriously argue Fox News is less biased?  NBC?  CNN?  I'd take the BBC over all of them.

Edit - as an aside, pulling up a few internet links doesn't impress me in a systematic way; in 20 seconds, I could find links claiming the Earth is 6,000 years old, that Jews caused 9/11, that black people are from another planet, and that cats are actually controlling our minds.  There's shit all over the place on the internet.  If you want to do a systematic deconstruction of each news source, claims of bias, research, and then presentation, I'll be impressed.  But if you're just going to Google shit, remember the old adage: Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Often, you really are Googling shit.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Ever Seen A Conservative News Anchor? (10/26/2008 3:01:59 PM)

The problem with Google is that I can prove just about anything with it, you know that. Which is why most of the links you provided were two years old. You know that director of the BBC mentioned in one of those articles has since been replaced?

kittinSol -> RE: Ever Seen A Conservative News Anchor? (10/26/2008 3:10:03 PM)

The problem is that all the links you posted are bias unto themselves and that you have done no research of your own: the BBC remains just about the most objective news source there is around. Sorry, Sanity: I give you a C- for effort. And... maybe you'd like to build your own news monopoly, like Rupert Murdoch? He has worked at establishing a right-wing news monopoly his entire life. Joint efforts, and all that jazz...

Real_Trouble -> RE: Ever Seen A Conservative News Anchor? (10/26/2008 3:17:42 PM)

In fact, I've decided to do a little research for myself regarding those links, because if I'm going to claim one should hold journalism to a higher standard than googling random shit, I should back it up.

Here we go:

Link #1 - The source is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daily_Mail

It's a FUCKING TABLOID.  This is like quoting the goddamn Equirer as a source.  Reading the article reveals it's so over the top that I couldn't help but literally laugh out loud at certain parts of it.  It's accusing the BBC of being anti-American (when it has also been accused of being too pro-American in another article), dominated by homosexuals, ethnic minorities, and that they hold secret meetings like a fucking cabal to run their company.

Wow.

Next link is an article claiming the BBC is biased with regard to unfavorable claims against Israel.  And who is making that claim at the root of things?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem_Center_for_Public_Affairs

From the article, regarding the attorney suing the BBC over bias:

"He admitted that he has not conducted his own study on the subject but he said he trusts other studies that showed the BBC's coverage of the conflict is biased."

"He noted Trevor Assersson of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs who found that the BBC's coverage of the conflict is biased and that the organization breaches all the norms of journalism required of a news body."

As a quick FYI on the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs:  They flat out state on their website that they are highly biased and are pushing Israel's cause all over the world.  Have a quick glance at the Wikipedia link and you can confirm that down a list of sources... or from reading the JCPA's own website!

So, yes, I call shenanagins on this one, to say the least...

A fucking tabloid.  Seriously?

Sanity -> RE: Ever Seen A Conservative News Anchor? (10/26/2008 3:24:46 PM)

Pfff....

Objective, huh? Even when they're admitting their own bias?

Or is that the only time they've ever had their facts mixed up   [8|]

It was the BBC's own study that said they are biased.

Refute it and prove they're incompetents, too, for all I care.

Oh, and you only covered two of my links so far - you have three or four yet to go. Then I'll go out and find you some more...

How determined are you to believe that the BBC is a god-like entity, perfect and pure in every possible way, anyway?

You're funny... you keep parroting the conservative catechism of insulting relatively neutral news sources (none is absolutely perfect) for not pandering up to the conservative agenda... but you aren't even able to give us one other example of a neutral news source yourself, are you? Because there isn't one :-) .

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Ever Seen A Conservative News Anchor? (10/26/2008 3:42:18 PM)

Solve the puzzle to discover the mystery answer.

Xon Fews

(Clue: anagram sounds like Exon Fuels)[8|][8|]

It can't be simply coincidence, I feel there is something greater at play here.

OK I admit Fews doesn't much sound like Fuels but I spent ages on this damnit.

Sanity -> RE: Ever Seen A Conservative News Anchor? (10/26/2008 3:43:34 PM)

Some objectivity would be nice... but if ever there were an objective news source available your reaction to it would probably be just like Joe Biden's was to the hardballs he got hit with in the video I linked to in my OP.

I would like to see all our politicians get hit with hardballs every day, just like the ones Joe Biden got hit with.

What's wrong with that?

...absolutely nothing at all.....except when McCain/Palin get hit with hardballs you cry liberal bias. Just as no media organisation ca be truly without bias, so none of us can be truly without bias. Sanity, you're far from neutral on these matters.......you have your own bias. Witness our debate regarding the Fairness Doctrine, where you claimed a right wing blog as definitive, and then ignore the facts that i researched in order to claim it was something it plainly wasn't.

You have an agenda........so do i, so does KS, so does Thadius, so does, for all i know, Mod XI.

....ppppffffttttt.....yes you do. Now let's just accept the plain fact we all do and move the debate to somewhere productive, eh?
