In my family we wouldn't let a beloved aunt live forgotten in squalor, "apparent" or otherwise. I know that new concepts can be hard to grasp at first, but I hope that helps.

One never knows. My beloved aunt - a remarkable woman, in fact - has a beloved daughter who was living in her car for a period of time. The family "let her" because she is bi-polar and won't take her meds but will take whatever drug is offered, and she was dragging her family down with her in her own depression. A grown woman who abuses the help given to her, who has become such a drain on her family (financial and emotional) that there is nothing anyone can do to help her but allow her to hit her own rock bottom. After doing all they possibly could to help her, they realized their help was only enabling her to continue down her destructive path.

At some point, you have to let go, even if you truly love the person.

We don't know about this aunt, and therefore cannot possibly assume anything about her, one way or another.

"Zietuni?"
Isn't that a Muslim name?

My brother's mother-in-law lives in the house her husband bought and attends the church she raised her UMs in....but the area has seriously gone to hell and no one in the family think she's safe there.  No one wants to move in with her, they all want her to do the relocating.

She's 96 years old and has had some health problems and has recently begun to show signs of decline.  I worry that if they manage to pry her out of there she'll slip into a depression and simply give up living.  I also worry she'll get hurt by a burglar or something if they don't get her to move.

It's not my place to decide what's best for her, but she's a truely remarkable woman...one of the kindest people I've ever met.  I just keep her in my prayers.

So why is Obama's aunt living in reduced circumstances?  Is it scandalous that a candidate for president would have a close relative who wasn't comfortably cared for?  Does her immigration dispute reflect badly on him?

Frankly, there's just not enough time left now to examine the particulars of the matter before the election, so I consider it a non-issue now.

After he is elected, when time permits, this is a matter I'd like to hear better explained.  I don't need to pry into this woman's life....I simply want to know she wasn't discarded by her family, including her nephew.

Potentially becoming President of the United states requires that all in-laws, cousins, aunts, uncles and previous car valets come out of the woodwork like they do when someone wins the lottery??

Too bad so sad for her.  If she were such a wonderful aunty she would be well taken care of no doubt.

Just because someone is related does not entitle them the benefits of your earnings. eesh.

No doubt that after election day (win or lose) she will invent some story about whipping his bottom with a wooden spoon 30 years ago and he had the audacity to fart.

Well, depending on how much the Enquirer promises to pay.  I can't see 'Aunty Zulu' on Larry King anytime in the near future.

It may as well be humus. Yes, the evil crept from the big bad earth and ate Obama's soul. sigh

How blatantly uninformed.  I think some whako websites make anyone believe anything.

Does anyone actually study actual facts about their own politicians??

Hurry up, you have 3 days left.  No Coles notes I'm afraid.

As far as the aunt is concerned it seems the right wing media tactics haven't changed much since their visit to his long lost brother in Africa.

Well, I guess we will all have to wait for his Aunt to speak...who knows...she just might tell embarrassing stories of him as a kid? We all have them
and I always hated when after I would date a girl for awhile and my Mom would bring out the pictures....hell, I am almost embarrassed now when
people see photos of me in the 70's as a young man with the hair and all that damn polyester.... not to mention the cheesy mustache!
For an older person to live in one place and not want to leave it as they age is not so unusual....even if those around them have
an economic change.

Frankly, I can't imagine what she might say, or why news of her existence had to be dug up by a reporter, or why she "can't talk about" her relationship with Obama until "after the 4th".

Lotta transparency going on there.

So?

Yea, so what? Now if this aunt had been related to Palin, then I could see the uproar. But it's a relative of Obama's, so we really should not pay any attention to it. After all....he's a superstar.

Yea, I think I do too.  After all, my own photos of myself from the Disco era are ridiculous but nothing compared to the wide lapels, the afros on white guys, the leisure suits...o, yes, I wanna see...he he he.

It's Israeli. And you know, anyone with a middle eastern name MUST be a terrorist.

Ignorance abounds.
