i bumped into this on the internet.

How would you pronounce this student’s name: “Le-a”?
Leah? NO
Lee - A?  NOPE
Lay - a?  NO WAY
Lei?  Guess Again.
It’s pronounced “Ledasha.”  Oh, yes, you read it right.  This child attends a school in Livingston Parish, LA. Her mother is irate because everyone is getting her name wrong.  If you see something come across
your desk like this, please remember to pronounce it correctly.
When the mother was asked about the pronunciation of the name, she said, “The dash don’t be silent.”

The sad part is my mother had a student with a very similar situation.  During the years mom taught at Laurel HS she had a student with a name pronounced Fa-mal-e.  Turns out when the young woman’s mother left the hospital with a new bouncing baby girl, she was given the birth certificate.  Upon inspection the mother thought isn't that nice they named my baby for me.  The certificate read Female followed by the womans last name.

my aunt worked for the regional transit authority and used to process long term bus passes.  she ran into this more than once.  same story, the woman said the hospital gave her baby that name.  has to be some boys out there named "male"

lmao, Steel. That reminds me of the commercial -- I don't remember what it's for now -- but there's a young guy in a suit rambling on and on in this interview "Yes, Mr. Dumbass ... Absolutely, Mr. Dumbass" etc etc... Finally, the old man looks at the guy who has this shit-eating grin on his face, and the old man says, "It's pronounced Du-mah!" (Dumas is the nameplate)

I liked the twin boys named  Lee-MAN-geel-loe  and Lee-MINE-geel-loe - Spelled Lemonjello and Limejello.

My grandmother went to school with a boy named Isaac Paul Coffee.  He would never tell the teacher's what his name was.  He only went by the initials "I. P." Coffee.

Edited to add:  I feel bad enough naming my UM Derek... BLACH!!! I hate that name!!  However.. Sweets and I have decided on Names for our future UMs... Porsche, Pixie, and Pheonix.... I thought that were GREAT names... then I remembered his last name starts with a U..... Last place I worked we had Christopher P. Bacon.  Always got called Chris-P Bacon, what's worse is that it was at his request.

Can't say where due to the Data Protection Act, but I've seen forms for Tracey Sucks and Sharon Blows, Teresa Green, Theresa Wood, Annette Curtin and Norah Bone.
