I thought that this was pretty funny:

The state that she (Palin) governs has no income or sales tax. Instead, it imposes huge levies on the oil companies that lease its oil fields. The proceeds finance the government’s activities and enable it to issue a four-figure annual check to every man, woman, and child in the state. One of the reasons Palin has been a popular governor is that she added an extra twelve hundred dollars to this year’s check, bringing the per-person total to $3,269. A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine—that “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.”

I think it was brilliant and the American way.  Palin re-negotiated the deal that the oil companies had made with the previous Alaskan politicians, some of who she ran out of office, got the money in the treasury and gave it back to the people on whose land the oil companies drill.  That is how government should work.
Contrast that with what would occur in an Obama "redistribution" administration.   Barack would impose a windfall profit tax on oil companies, get the money in Washington, D.C.,  and than decide how that money is to be spent for our good since we don't know what is for our good, I guess.    I think I would  prefer to get that check from Palin and decide how I would want to spend the money...dont you?

Palin was referring to a program with clear socialist leanings in her own state.

Starting in 1982, the Alaska Permanent Fund started taking from the oil companies and giving to the people. This year, each Alaskan resident will get a check for $3,269. Palin herself pushed for a fuel cost increase of $1,200 per person this year.

Sounds pretty socialist to me.Taking money from businesses and "re-destributing it"

Your vote is your affair, and you can only rightly vote based on your opinion of the information presented.

Sadly however it would appear that you have chosen to hear only that information that fits to some preconceived idea. There is a word for this type of thought process and decision making, which may be more familar to you personally when those who pursue it do so in order to produce hostile conclusions about Hispanic Americans.

Status: offline 		Well, shucks, I do understand there are similarities to socialism and tax redistribution. I also understand there are some strong simlarities between the Republican party and the Communist party of China. But similarities do not an equivilant make. The Republicans are not communists no matter how many similarities because of clearly defined ideas and actions that seperate the two. The same for Obama and socialism. Though, there is a strong case that Mrs Palin is a socialist.

She said that the citizens of Alaska *own* those oil assets.
They're being paid "royalties" for their property.

One does need to pay for assets in order to own them  Don't they?   I mean, if it were 'given' to them, these assets...wouldn't that be socialism?  Yanno, getting handouts?

Status: offline 		Heavens to mercy... A Governor who actually runs their state like a business. The citizens of the state are like shareholders. Big Oil is leasing the land. Hence the people of the state are getting their dividends. Its that a CEO's job, to maximize the dividends to shareholders? Maybe if more state governments were run as a business, they wouldn't need to run to big brother federal for all the 'gimme gimme' money.
Hopefully governments, Federal, state and local,  finally realized that it isnt THEIR money they are spending, its OURS. We are allowing them to use that money for purposes that we, the citizenship, deem appropriate. Right now they are deciding the best way to buy votes with our money,  but we can hope they might actually spend it appropriately.

On this portion, given a good percentage of the Alaskan people are Native American, I'd say there is a good foundation for owning the assets (ie the land).

There is a African American who is a libertarian who I wish would run for President because he has so much wisdom and believes in our constitutional rights like freedom of speech and the right to bare arms. Barry has a more Hugo Chaves type of ideology that if not checked would bring this country to chaos.And AQ wins.
