This idea is very unclear to me.  I don’t understand how fear and loyalty are necessarily linked.  Would you care to expand?

Why do you obey even when the command is not something you enjoy?

I obey because I have agreed to do so.  If you are suggesting that I obey out of fear of—oh, let’s say fear of losing the relationship—that doesn’t factor in much, at least for me.  It would not occur to me to be disobedient because I know what is expected and I take my responsibilities seriously.
If I had a sudden penchant for disobedience that would indicate that I was the one who wanted to be gone.

But would you have the same relationship (and the same dynamic) if there were not a possibility of losing the relationship over disobedience?

I've enjoyed reading this thread...  I, too, find that those who create an air of superiority are really hiding something; usually a weakness or insecurity.  They are overcompensating.  I can understand this, as a fellow human; but if someone doesn't feel comfortable with who they are, then the relationship becomes so complicated.  And besides, it's so hard to get to know people when they put up a front.

There are many factors that could change the dynamic and/or end the relationship.  I recognize those possibilities but I do not fear them. That would be wasting energy better used for the reality of today, not the “what-if” of tomorrow.
