Thank you!  I am feeling much better today, by which I mean my chest does not hurt because I am coughing so much, but I will keep this in mind for next time:)

Note to self:  Sometimes it's just better to let the mechanic take the alternator out when the damn thing is bolted in place with an air gun. 

(however, I was impressed with myself for getting the battery disconnected and getting the single wire nut/bolt off...  it's that whole belt/bolt issue that had me stumped...  *grumbles*)

Thankies, Sci and GT.  I really tried.  My dad was amazed at how tight the bolts were on.  When I called the guys and Goodyear and finally conceded defeat, they said, "We put those bolts on with an air gun, sweetie.  I don't think a socket set and muscle is really going to challenge that.  Bring it in and we'll get you squared away." 

(I still wore a low cut shirt and channeled my inner Scarlet O'Hara charm, complete with lots of eyelash batting while I waited.)  [;)]

You just needed a big cheater (a pipe about 3 feet long might've worked.)  Note that that's pipe I'm referring to, and not men!
