I (try to) play electric guitar, with maximum distortion on - rock and metal. Trying to master those weird scary scales now that are just so good for evil sounding music!

About the only thing I can play is my iPod :(

As far as what music I listen to, I have an extreme range of tastes.  My primary genre is good ol' Rock & Roll.  But I also enjoy the repetitive beats of Techno and th general weirdness of Ambient.  Lately I've been obsessing over cello music.  And I really love cover versions of already well-known music: Hayseed Dixie is brilliant with their Blue Grass versions of AC/DC songs; Big Daddy is equally brilliant with their 50's style covers of pop music; ever heard U2 songs performed by a string quartet?

About the only music I have no use for is Country (too much jingoism lately) and Rap/Hip Hop.

Just my 2-cents worth...

~Dave

Jingoism?

I like it all, unfortunately I don't play any instrument.    Sad, so sad.  I may have to remedy this.

As for what I may like, I lean toward alternative rock, and I'm a huge fan of Metallica (except for Load and Re-Load, 2 steaming loads but that's just me).  What I gravitate toward depends on my mood, if it's rough play then I will go for Atreyu or Pantera maybe some NIN or pre-black album Metallica.  Driving a long distance?  Then it's classic country, something I can sing along to like Fiona Apple.  Or the Gorillaz.  My fave song at the moment is the new one from the Killers.  Good stuff.

I have a set of Ludwigs that I bash on. Last band was "punkabilly" with a few covers like "Chinese Rocks", "Psychotic Reaction" (Count Five), "Submission" (Sex Pistols), "I Wanna Be Your Dog" (Iggy Pop) and so on. I like to practice to Hendrix, Led Zep, Grateful Dead, Steely Dan (various drummers), and some Jazz and Swing. I have an Aerodyne Strat and a Super-reverb reissue, but I can't really play very well. Short fingers.

Heya Welshguy,

Yeah I trained and used to be a classical musician.  Hey I have even sung in Cardiff and at Covent Garden over on your side of the pond!

Though I spent many years studying classical, and do love that genre, I am also a bit of a jazz and blues nut and er... well having sort of come up through the 80's and 90's am a big punk and 'new wave' fan... man how dating is that??

I play both guitar and keyboard, though I don't play either one very well.  The most frequent request I get is to play "Over the hill and far away".  My brother is the real music expert in the family.  He plays guitar, banjo, keyboard, fiddle, drums, and just about anything else he takes a fancy to.  (Yes, I'm jealous...especially since I'm the one that got him started!)  My "ability" lays more to the lyrical side.  I had one song that got good reviews from the Nashville Songwriters Association, though they didn't take any options on it.  I had a Christmas song some people wanted to buy for their daughters demo CD which they were putting together, but they wanted to buy the song outright and I wanted creative say in the song as well as residuals, so we never came to a meeting of the minds.  Then there was a children's song in which I wrote the lyrics to and my brother did the music which actually got published.  Unfortunately it was part of a larger package (books, character dolls, etc) which never went anywhere.  Oh well.  Maybe next time!

I am trying to learn to play a doumbek.

Music, anything really that hits that nail when the nail needs to be hit, normally Egyptian music, doom metal and classical music.

I like almost everything.. well.. besides techno, rap, house... but that's not music after all

Was into metal (mostly heavy and progressive ) a little more than other genres when a little younger .. it is getting a little too loud now

Played clarinet, bass guitar, percussion (congas, tablas... ).

I come from a musical family. I'm a singer, but I also play drums, bass, guitar, a little bit of piano. I've always concentrated on my vocals, and that's what I'm best at. As for instruments, I have yet to come across one that I couldn't figure out. No virtuoso by any means, but I can figure them out. My instrument playing is basic and mostly for writing purposes. I was in my first band at age 13. Wrote my first song at age 13. I took lessons from a really good vocal coach (He taught Sebastian Bach, Jon Bon Jovi, Klaus Meine, and many others) and got really good from it. Tried my best to "make it" for 15 years. At 28 I put music on the back burner after letting it consume my life and everything in it for the previous 15 years.
These days, I sing in a local rock/metal cover band. It's fun. I get my rocks off and make a few bucks here and there doing it.
As for what I listen to...I can appreciate any and all music, but I'll always be a rocker a heart. Zeppelin, KISS, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Motly Crue, RATT, Priest, Maiden, Queen, Scorpions, Skid Row, King's X. I could go on and on...Too many to list. Also bands like The Eagles,
U2 (I love Bono's voice.) Prince, Elton John, Michael Buble (My little girl got me into him.) Pretty much anything melodic. I'll always listen to a great vocalist, regardless of the genre.
My favorite stuff is/was/will always be 80's "hair" metal. The soundtrack to having a good time...AND I DID!!!
