Do you have to agree with a candidate's views on everything to vote for them or just most things? What, if anything do you disagree with your chosen candidate on?

My chosen candidate is Barack Obama. There are two things I don't like about him.

1. Foreign aid. We need to worry about our own country and stay away from the global economy. American tax dollars should be spent in America.

2. He is for nuclear power. Nuclear power plants generate hazardous waste that remains hazardous for thousands of years. There is no 100% fullproof way to store it. Solar, wind, and water all have potential. Why do we have to have nuclear?

Bad decisions made by the last democratic president.

1. Signing NAFTA.

2. Cutting welfare to full-time college students. Yes, reform was needed because there were many lazy people living off the government. But why cut college students?

My canidate is Barrack Obama.

wow so many to list it is amazing but I will keep them brief.

1. Tax cut for the middle/lower class: does not work creates inflation
2. Bail out of the banks: will not get the system liquid and will end up allowing big banks to swallow small banks using tax payer money.
3. Targeted tax cuts for buisness: Too prone for abuse, to unwieldy to regulate with out larger government.
4. Anti gun legislation. An armed citzentry assures the states can gather and support a militia in times of national need and protects the rights of the states established in the constitution.
5. Pro choice stance. This is an issue that falls in the responsibility of states and has no place in national politics.
6. No clear policy on immigration reform.
7. No clear policy on budget cuts to take care of the Republican derfered taxes they raised through debt.
8. No respect of the soverignty of other nations in the hunt for terrorists.
9. Taking on way too much, No way he can address a fraction of the problems and still get any kind of sleep.
10. Not understanding the economic and enviromental impact of focusing only on alternative energy.

There is more but I figure 10 reasons should be enough. Frankly the list is similar for McCain. Both are bad canidates and despite the moinker of "Maverick" and "Change" both espouse failed policy of the past. Barrak though is much more charismatic, unifies the disorganized mess we call the Democratic party, inspires more hope, much more organized, much more effective in his campaign and his responses to the crisis was measured, exact and eloquently delievered. All these are leadership qualities and he exemplifies them better then McCain.

I voted for McCain.  I don't like his history on immigration issues.  I don't like his or Obama's views on gay marriage (both hold the same position, BTW.  Both are against it).  I didn't agree with him picking Palin for the VP slot; I think he could have found a lot more qualified people (including plenty of qualified Republican women.)  I don't agree with him or Obama on a long list of social issues.  I'm against the so called "Drug War" for instance.

I concur with you on the illegal immigration issue. It's not the same as Cubans seeking freedom. The mexican government and the U.S. both are guilty of illegal immigration by Mexico.

I will vote for Obama.  Unlike the other posters I don't have any significant problems with his positions on any issue in particular, but it is disconcerting to me that I had never heard his name this time last year.  McCain is a bit more of a 'known quantity' to me and as a party regular, he seemed more predictable.

However, I am so repulsed by some of McCain's positions I cannot in good conscience vote for him.  And as I have watched Obama mange the trials and tribulations of the campaign I have grown more accustomed to him and feel a greater degree of comfort.

Still and all, there are other Democrats I'd have preferred to take the nomination (not Hillary, please Gawd) but the Democrats seem to be utterly unable to bring a viable candidate up through the ranks anymore.  Maybe once they've held the White House  again they'll get their collective shit a bit more together.

I'm voting for Chuck Baldwin of The Constitution Party.
I think he's too religious.
But, he'll probably come in third.
Don't waste your vote by voting "Democrat" or "Republican."
If either of them were any good the country wouldn't be in such bad shape now, would it?

I dislike Obama's tendency to promise government programs to pay for everything for everyone, with little regard to where the money will actually be coming from.

I submitted my paper ballot.

As usual, I split it.

Carny got my vote,  US rep, as he did not vote for bail out.

Obama, Mccain did not get my vote. They both voted for the bailout.  So I wrote in Ron Paul.

On state issues, with all the sniping, I went liberatarian.  I do not want the government to solve any more problems. I can not afford it.

I voted for my state rep who is GOP. His office is always proficient, any time I dealt with them. He is one of a kind.

I voted to approve the bond issue for water systems. I did so- because I dont want the water privatized.

I dont view myself as wasting a vote.  The 2 parties have to see that they are losing us.  That lesser of 2 evils no longer works.

I think Root is a very good Libertarian, but as a candidate he needs some refinement- he's just too infomercial, too salesman, too huckster. I need to play his interviews at about 80% speed. I still think Barr would be a better fit for the Constitution Party than the LP.

As far as my chosen candidate, the thing I don't like is that he's not on the ballot (Ron Paul).

McCain is getting my vote even though there are many things I don't agree with in his platform or past public actions.  He walked across the aisle too many times and they never walked back towards him...he was played by the liberals and the media.  They called him a mavrick and now they attack him.  He should have been tougher on securing our borders, he should open ANWR for drilling, he should have been more forceful in the campaign about his tax policy,..he is learning from Palin about conservative republicanism.

Net, net, however, I will take McCain with all his warts over Obama who wants to "change" America to his radical leftist vision...He makes Hillary look like a conservative....

PAs ballot is restrictive.  I thought about it hard and long.  Nader is on it,  but the name Ron Paul has more shock appeal.  I wrote mine in- which is why I went for a paper ballot...aside from it being real.

One year a dude in jail got millions of votes. He did not win- but im sure it was noted.

I agree with Popeye.   We are sunk by the two parties, why reward them?

He is more of a centrist than I would have wanted, but I have to say that I can forgive that since he seeks to govern this nation by reaching out to all of us, unlike Bush. The Bush years have done nothing but divide this nation further. Bush has made it obvious he could give a rat's ass about those of us that do not support him. Obama does not have that attitude (at least he does not come across that way).

Let's face it, it looks like he is going to have a mandate, I wish he would use it more liberally... pun intended.

edited to add, my candidate is Obama

I think BlackPhx hit the nail on the head for me also.
I am not obsessed with spelling or grammatical errors on a
freaking message board, so her minor errors do not bug me.
You are right on point!
I agree Senator Obama "promises" a lot, but I have been around long enough that
if he is able to accomplish 25% of what he promises that will be fantastic!
