Just three months ago, I would have had to think about this one,  but that was before McCain brought the Stepford Wife aboard as a running mate.  I think that woman stands for everything women have fought against for centuries.

Please explain.

I would be shocked if europeans, in general, did not support Obama in the U.S. presidential race.  He speaks the language of socialism, and yet denies he is a socialist, his platform is one of stronger central government control over americans from healthcare to education, and I think there is also a deep rooted resentment about the success of America.  Obama's message of "change" resonates with europeans who live in socialist democracies.  Interestingly, I wonder if people who were once held in the chains of communist supression would favor Obama over McCain??. Don't see any comments from Ukraine, Poland, Georgia..et al.

Please remind me of the successes I'm supposed to be resenting ?

As some of my people were once (as you describe it) held in the chains of communist supression,I fell at least in part, able to provide some input on the issue..............when my folks called on the world (which includes the U.S.A.) for help, none came, not from anywhere, including any American country or the U.S.A. I guess the U.S.A. was busy being successful.
As a result of having more than a passing concern regarding old farts who insist on imposing the term "my friend" on everyone and trying to convince people that everything is bad except their ideas,I have grave concern over such a prospect.
Why wouldnt the outside world be concerned about how the U.S. votes.......... it was the U.S. that put Bush in power, which is scary when you add "for a second term" to that.
p.s. does the term "my friend" imply that you can pop 'round for a beer and a chat now and then ?

Obama for the exact same reasons as Darias

A coworker has some friends from central Europe (I forget which country now), who voted for McCain precisely because they felt Obama was too socialistic, and too close to what they escaped from.

Ever heard of that thing called No Child Left Behind?  A federally-mostly-unfunded-mandate in the educational system?  How about the Medicare prescription plan?  The Department of Homeland Security (now there's a cluster)?
