I hope this is the right area of the board to post this in:

Here's another random thought that entered my mind. I like writing a lot and when I first joined CM, I started a journal and blog. When I made my new profile I was hesitant to journal again, because I thought maybe it would reveal more things than I wanted to or that it would come off as a bit self indulgent.

Anyway, I decided to try it again and I've noticed that when I look at profiles, I'm always intrigued the most by those who actually have journal entries. It's really interesting to read them and see into someone thoughts.

I have a question, do you prefer contacting people who also include journals in their profiles? What can you gleam from a person's CM journal? Do you have a public journal or blog?

Thanks in advance.

Isn't one of the points of having a journal to be self-indulgent?

I enjoy reading the journals.

Indiffrent leaning on dislike.

Most of the journals I've seen have just been moaning about all the fakeness and "dont think I'm stupid just because I'm sub, money and tribute people beware I'm onto you!".

But for everyone who use the journal system as an actual journal and let know the highlights of the days, good on you. Love to read those.

A journal isn't going to make me initially interested in someone, but it certainly helps get me MORE interested in them.

I don't keep a CM journal anymore, but I direct people to where I do journal.

Hi there,
I have a journal on my profile.  I make it a point to not write anything at all kinky or sexual on it.  I just love to write and I think people can see a more clear picture of who I am because of it.  I often get little notes from folks about what I've written.  Also, I have the same experience about having pix on my profile.  I have found that it weeds people out too.  If you write me and haven't read anything in my profile and it's obvious from what you have written, I don't mind chatting with you, BUT you are more likely to get a real discussion from me if you have read it.  I will typically read yours too (including journal).  I also find it's a good way to find *inconsistencies* in people.

Well wishes,
sunshine

I use the journal to put stuff that won't exactly look right in the profile. The "by-the-way" things that you would like people to know, yet you don't want it in your main profile.

I like reading journals here. They always provide amusement.

I don't have a preference.  I like reading others' journals and I use the one on this site.  I've received some of the best contact based on my blog and it's led to making some new acquaintances.  Who knows?  They might become partners at some point.  However, I don't post the most intimate details of my thoughts or my life on the journal attached to my profile.  There are some things I prefer the general public doesn't know about me.  For the deep stuff, I have a LiveJournal where I can filter posts.

I think...if it is a serious journal.....it says more about the person then its profile.
(with serious I mean not complaining about others only..but also once in a while thoughts and opinions)

I keep a journal here and write whatever is on my mind at the time...sometimes kink-related sometimes not. I recently deleted quite a few entries because, well, I can rattle on a bit!
I always read journal entries of those that email me, if they have them. I see these entries as a view into a part of the person who wrote them. Many times I'll send a comment to someone, not because I'm interested in communicating with them, but because what they wrote caught my attention in some way.   Maybe it's because I'm a voracious reader...who knows.

I use my journal to expose more information about me:  my thoughts, likes, dislikes, ventures...  As you will also see it also reflects people thoughts about me, their thoughts about people they dislike or have bias against (i.e., obese individuals)...  I love to journal... wish I had more time to do so...

On writting a journal:
I used to maintain mine on here - until someone bitched me out for talking about my experience being unemployed.  Now I don't bother.

On reading a journal:
If the profile is enough to get -and keep- my interest then I'll look at the journal.  But I gotta tell ya: I really hate when people write out long poems or song lyrics.  That's a huge turn off no matter what else is written.  I consider it the Red Flag of the Drama Queen.  :D

I like to read journals, and sometimes they are REALLY a good filter.  The people who bitch about fakes and wannabes; the people who write very long, very detailed, very yawn-inducing fantasies about such things as manicures/pedicures; the people who only post song lyrics or poems... that says more about them than anything else could.

Hopefully they can find someone that finds that sort of thing appealing.

Okay so, I'm going to grab a cup of tea and read through your journals and hopefully I'll learn more about some of you.

Thanks for sharing.

I know quite a few people who have done that and on my old blog, I admit I did have a post or two with song lyrics but usually accompanied by my thoughts on why I posted them, or an audio journal. Thank you for sharing ... as you alluded to, it's really about what people find interesting and/or appealing.

One thing is certain, you will not find song lyrics on my CM journal. *lol*

Katey, in your journal entry, I loved what you had to say about a "True Dominant". I actually feel pretty much the same way. I will say this, geez that text is so small, I had to squint close to the screen to read it. *lol*

Sassy,

I didn't read your whole journal but from the first entry I found something most definitely I can relate to and empathize with.

I've have felt similar about the messages I receive, some are most definitely looking for not only wanking material but of course to lure you off the site for a quick cyber fix. Unfortunately for me, that's resulted in me feeling suspect about all intial messages, especially the ones where someone can't bother to say more than one sentence.

I just respond in kind. If you send me a one sentence message, I'll send the same back (unless that one sentence is spectacular).

I liked how, in your journal, you talked about your old screename and the meaning behind your current one. I also found something that was familiar, you talked about choosing Albatross from the film Serenity and I thought that was great. I had never seen a episode of Firefly, although I've heard of the Browncoats and strong fan following of the series, until I caught Serenity on cable one day. After I saw the film, I thought, wow this is a great movie (and I'm not a big fan of Sci-Fi). It made me curious about watching the past episodes of the series.

I still have yet to do that, but it's on my list.

Most of the time, my random selector brings up Dom profiles.  I say, thank Gawd for journals. So many times Doms write very abbreviated or uninformative stuff in their profiles but feel freer to express themselves in their journals.

Over the years, I've seen great stuff in journals by people of all stripes.  There are some deep thinkers here, some wildly creative types, etc.  I never know what I may find and if I read a profile, I always read all the journal entries.

I don't think anyone else gets to criticize what another member chooses to put in their journal.  It's unfortunate that you removed an entry about your experiences with unemployment Dave...I bet it was comforting to many people who never took the time to tell you, and one bitchy control freak snarks about it, so you think it should go.

I don't see journals as having any assigned purpose other than as an opportunity to put in anything you want (except an image, I suppose).  Poetry; song lyrics; news, rants, whatever.  I find it more revealing that way.

Hey Zakkan,

I read your journal and your September entry, on some days, I can totally relate to. I'm really making an effort to initiate by starting these forum threads. Just stepping outside of my comfort zone and trying to start some form of conversation instead of just putting my words out there and hoping someone will 'figure' out who I am.

It's hard though, because of that dirty word that starts with an "R". I don't know anyone who wants to put themselves out there and look silly for doing it.
