And in winter I don't mean the below zero's or snow or places ilke michigan, cause I have no doubt that'll cause health problems if not simply discomfort. I mean like I always thought colds were caused by germs.  And I don't mean running like marathons, so I put around in the title, a bit belated though lol.

Running around as in your home continually naked, while it's cold with no source of proper heat, or walking about your yard naked* if your yard is secure enough* or if you live in a nudist colony on the beach nude lol. that kind of running naked.

a cold is a virus...transmitted from one host to another.

Running naked will get you arrested, but will not get you sick.

The problem is, when your being cold lowers your body's immune defenses, and makes you susceptible to illness.

Notice the temperature changes in your body, when you are ill.  Basically, if the environment keeps your body close to its ideal temperature, your body doesn't have to use a lot of its resources just manufacturing heat, so it can use those resources for other functions, such as healing, reproducing itself healthfully, and dealing with unwelcome invaders such as allergens, disease, and infections.

Now, on the other hand, acclimating yourself to withstanding cold can make you hardy.  I do not know how one does that without compromising the immune system.

As members of a household that has done sweatlodge year-round, in the buff, and who live primarily 'clothing optional', I can say that the best way to do that is to eat well, get enough sleep, and minimize the stress on the body in -other- areas, to give the body time to acclimate to the changes in temperature.

I know that our bodies acclimate a lot faster than most folks, since we tend not to change our home climate from the exterior climate except in the most extreme temperature periods (for us, primarily using a little bit of AC--about a 10 degree variance from ambient--during the hottest summer months). I also know that my body doesn't acclimate nearly as well now that I work in a place where they air-condition year-round, and think that 50 degrees outside is no reason to turn off the AC.

Hm, as an allergy and immunization technician, I'll have to go ahead and give you the short version that no ~ nakedness in a cold environment will not make you sick.  Neither will all the preventative measures people believe in such as taking a daily vitamin or drinking OJ every morning  keep you from getting sick.  Your immune system is what it is and it may or may not be able to build defenses against everything like your neighbor's does.   There's a lot of stuff going on in your body all at once ~ makes sense that if energy is being put elsewhere to some other disorder, then less energy is being put to immunity building.  That's the short reason why they don't like us to get vaccinations when we have a cold ~ our immune system is already busy and it won't do a very good job building immunities to the new 'thing!'
I used to take vitamins and drink OJ every morning and all the other recommended preventative measures ~ and I was constantly sick.  Then I learned that OJ triggered migraines for me, that the vitamins were one of the reasons causing my acid reflux and learned that my immune system was busy fighting all the allergies that I found out that I had developed instead of keeping me from getting sick all of the time.  I stopped all of that and stopped being sick most of the time.  Now, I keep my life simple and my thermostat around 65 because my particular body doesn't like temps above 70 in the winter.   Long exposures to 70+ temps actually make me sick! And that's because of the nice warm environment all the germs like to live in.
As a kid, I used to go off to school with my butt length hair wet from my morning shower and I never got sick from that even though everyone swore to heaven and hell that I would.
And that's my advice to you, listen to your body ~ it's unique from everyone else's.  What works for someone else is probably not gonna work for you.

Colds wouldn't be my concern...."shrinkage" however, would be.

(Not exactly when I'd take a profile pic).

oh oh  -  if being cold in the buff causes shrinkage, then maybe my butt will go away this winter!!!!!!!! [:D]

When i was a kid, at camp, i used to participate in an activity that was called "polar bear".. where we would be woken up at the very crack of dawn, run from our cabin down to the lake, and jump IN..for a VERY chilly first morning swim..

Never made me sick.. in fact, i remember the after effects fondly.. that cold swim did something to my body, that nothing else ever has, a complete awakening.. and the rest of the day was spent with a different feeling of awareness..wakefulness.. everything could be seen much differently. i loved that, just..brr.. i hated that first moment the cold water touched body.. till you became used to it.

Isn’t the reason why we get sicker in the winter because viruses survive longer in cold temperatures so therefore there are more of them around in the air when it is cold?
And being naked in cold requires body to use more resources to maintain body temperature, which leaves less for the immune system, and that weakens it? So naked in, cold you have more viruses and less immunity, which means greater chance to get ill?

NO.. the reason why people get sick more in winter cold temeratures..is NOT because germs survive better in the cold temps.. BUT.. because Germs flourish in warm invironments.. where people are more likely to be.. at any given time.. a average family for instance will spend more time inside where its warm... rather then being out of home..so thats why the germs live and last longer.

Personally.. i stopped buying most household cleaning supplies.. and now walk around with a bottle of vinegar..and spray things like door handles.. light switches.. sink knobs.. ect.. to kill the germs. MUCH cheaper..

cold virus survives better in cold weather. plenty of links around, for example:

"The virus may linger longer on exposed surfaces (doorknobs, countertops, etc.) in colder temperatures."
"See, influenza viruses have a lipid coat. Most of us are familiar with lipids in the form of oils we use for cooking. Whether the lipid is solid or liquid depends on the temperature."
"At low temperatures, the lipid coat was solidified as a gel. As the temperature approached 60 degrees Fahrenheit, the coat turned into a goopy mess."
"In cold temperatures, the virus is better able to survive the elements and find a new host."

"Why Do People Get Sick More Often in the Winter?
“Lots of hypotheses, not one perfect answer,” says William Schaffner, M.D., chairman of the department of preventive medicine at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, in Nashville. A leading theory is that confinement breeds infection. “In winter,” Schaffner says, “we spend more time indoors, in rooms that may not get a lot of circulation, giving us more opportunities to be exposed to respiratory viruses.” The winter air, inside and outside, also tends to be less humid, drying nasal passages and making them more vulnerable to viral invasion. Still, Schaffner adds, the cold environment itself has not been proven to make people get sick in the winter"

But.. i give up.. waving the white flag... Think we are BOTH right..

[sm=duel.gif]Just not exactly sure why you picked on me.. to get into a tiff with.
