The shit with vista happened when companies (outside microsoft) start to sell  "Windows Vista Ready" pc's.
Many people bought pc's that couldn't run vista with all the eyecandy.
That is why companies like Dell and HP let people downgrade to Xp now.

In the pc world it seems normal for producers to not ask consumers. Games for example are made in such way..that the new graphic card you bought...almost can't run it.
Causing you to buy a new one soon. Same they tried with Vista. Good for hardware sales.
The bad thing is though..that many of such happened outside of Microsoft...but they get the blames. It is their "windows"

Vista's been out quite a while now and most of the original issues have been repaired. But my computer tech told me when it was first released not to buy it because he was spending his days wiping it off machines and replacing it with XP. It really was that bad.

I bought an inexpensive HP computer from walmart last winter that came with Vista. I had heard so much negativity concerning Vista, I was going to ditch it, fomat my drive & just use XP.   I had a very brief problem with it, in which I had to send the computer back to HP (Inconvenient, but the paid for the shipping & picked it up at the house), There was a problem with one of the pieces of hardward on here, which I was able to find, using some of the little bells & whistles on Vista.

I got it back, & it has been fine ever since, but I really started to like it, when I added about 4 mgs of memory to it.  This thing is awesome.  I really don't mind the permissions it asks for.  My antivirus & antispyware programs do the same. It was annoying at first, but really not an issue anymore.  I have other people in the house that use my computer from time to time, so I actually like some of those annoying security features on Vista, though it frustrates my grown ones when they use it.  :)  But they are old enough to buy their own if they don't appreciate it.

Owner59: what updates? I'm on SP3 and all my XP's still look like XP.  What did you install?

Lockit: Sadly, Vista didn't get along with most of the hardware on the market at the time it was released.  A couple of years later and the playground is pretty much at peace once again.  New PC + Vista = pretty cool 'puter.  I still love XP but I'm starting to warm up to Vista.  Now if only there weren't so damn many versions...

I just clicked a Windows update and got the new "look".

It`s supperficial as far as I can tell,no biggy.

Vista really likes 4 gig of memory (even though 32bit version only can use 3 1/2 gig)
But it gets enjoyable then for sure.

I have an HP on top of vista.. I am told that that complicates it even more.

I have an HP laptop with Vista and I love it. The only problem I've encountered is IE continually crashes. So I use Safari now. I can't get Adobe Flash to work with Safari, so no YouTube, etc. I go to IE for that. Otherwise, I'm totally thrilled with this setup. It's the fastest, slickest, most problem free system I've had (I hope I just didn't jinx myself!).

Huh?

I thought Vista was pissing everyone off because it's riddled with bugs?  Are you saying that's incorrect, Owner?

That IE 7 was hell on me.  For some reason, I cannot make use of Firefox..I thought for awhile I was gonna end up without a browser at all.

If Vista really is better I guess I'd consider modifying the OS, but I'd have to be persuaded it was much, much better...I am sick of learning where the hell all the commands are again.

I miss WordPerfect...for my needs stiil is the best word processing program I have used. i haven't any need for spread sheets, etc. and when i reformated, I never reloaded MicrosSoft Office.  I don't get why Word never did provide a 'reveal codes' command..does Vista have one?

I liked the look and feel of Mr Happy in my ex-girlfriend's mouth but at some point I had to upgrade her, too!

Sorry, I just couldn't resist...

Huh?

Where is 'Tools' in Word?

What 'reveal codes' did in WordPerfect was open a split scren so half the page was showing all the codes, like page break and stuff.

Word is annoying when a 40 page document has lost it's outline numbering somewhere and I cannot find it.

Amazingly, after reading this post earlier today, my sound quit.  It seems that when updating sound drivers in the particular model puter that I have, it is beginning to kill the integrated sound card/chipset thingy.  There are two computer shops in town and neither could repair it.  They could verify that it is a recurring problem with this model and its "Vista-lite."

I really hate the combination of castrated Vista and Acer equipment.

Friends don't let friends buy Acers.

*snickers* Mojave you mean? =P

Vista is just a poorly designed attempt at a knock off OS to compete with Apple's OSX. It's been pointed out before. I'm sticking with the real thing. I love my Mac, and Leopard and everything. So few issues.

And, I truly think it's sad, no matter what company makes it, when people demand continued support for the older OS because they hate the new one that much. Kinda funny in a way, but...still sad.

What's that Candy? You lost your tool...?  :D
The Tools menu should be right up there between "Format" and "Tab".  If not, there's always "Help".  Not nearly enough people avail themselves of the Help function...

So far,no bugs or issues.

My Aser laptop has plenty of resources/memory and runs fast and smooth.

I think the pirates and music down loaders are the most pissed, cuz the new OS won`t allow copyright infringements, unauthorized downloading, etc.

Otherwise,Vista is basically the same as XP.

If there were problems before, they`ve been fixed.

Don`t fear Vista

I jumpedthough because I have a burning question. Why the hell would you fuck with something that worked ?

Sorry but I really want to know, is it really so important to have new shit even if it doesn't work ? I gather that it did, but what if the upgrade FUBARED the system and you were dead in the water ? What was wrong with it before, just that it looked the same for too long ? It does not compute.
