Just an FYI on car parts. Typically, shops will charge about 3 - 5 times the amount the part actually costs which is why labor costs go up significantly if you bring in your own parts.

Car shops make tons of money on the parts while labor is fairly static ($45 - $75 an hour). Himself just bought and installed new seat belts for our SUV after the dog ate the originals. To get the job done at the shop was quoted at $800, $600 of which was for the actual seat belts. We bought the seat belts ourselves, online, and he installed them which took him half the day (one of those, "I don't need to read the directions" thingys.

)

About three days later, the dog ate the second set of seatbelts so we had to purchase another set for another $125 and this time it only took him about 30 mins to install them.

The dog is still alive .. but on probation for execution if he eats another set.

You just don't get it. Whether it is Man induced matters not, we are destined to become a third world country. Get ready for the ride. My gun is loaded, the safe is locked. I now keep my doors locked when I sleep. In the past there would be weeks going by when my door was never locked. No more.

Get ready, get food, water and money, and of course weapons. This is not going to be pretty, but it is all part of the plan. They want to expand what has been termed the global plantation, and we can't seem to stop them.

But it's not a conspiracy, realize this, all those rich people worked for their money, really hard. You just don't understand work. You see work is not producing a product the best you can and taking pride in that, nor is it providing a service to the best of your ability. Real work, the kind that makes the real money seems to be surfing the internet looking for another boat, or a piece of ass. It is going to the golf club, or the yacht club and hobnobbing with those who are your betters, which means they have more time to waste.

Hard work will get you nowhere, get stingy and make it known, show a gun if necessary to make the point. That is the way to get through these times. They are not going to reward achievement until it is absolutley necessary. We live in a country where most of our "leaders" have never worked a fucking day in their life. That includes Obama even though I support him.

What they have in store for us and what they have in store for themselves are two different things. Pull your head out of the sand now while it might not be too late. We are in for a rough ride to say the least. None of these people work for us or toward our goals, meager as they might be. A stable home and job and just a bit of financial security would make alot of people happy, but that is not to be, even though if the suits only stole like 20% less from us it could be a near universal reality.

Don't give me numbers from this year, think about the last twenty. They take and take until there is no more to take. Know why ? All they know how to do is take, none of them have ever worked a day in their life. They have but one skill, taking from us. So what do you expect them to do ?

There will be no industrial revival in our lifetimes, just poverty. People with real money are tired of the nuevo riche fucking with their plans. They want to see Bill Gates in the unemployment line. That is how they are and that is all they know. They can't even clean their own houses, I know people who made good money just cleaning houses. That's what they want, a simple servant class, and by golly they are going to get it no matter what it costs us.

There will be no rebirth of the US manufacturing industry in our lifetime. Get used to it.

That is exactly right, and Deutschland has a trade surplus with the rest of the world, despite their goods being relatively more expensive. The Germans decided long ago that labor and management in partnership is a better model than the adversarial one adopted in the US. Workers have a stake in the business and in the quality of their work. There's a synergy at work that is nonexistent here.

To your orginal question. There is no way to "get" the jobs that shipped overseas back, not without lowerring the standard of living of American to that of a third world country . As pointed out, shipping can cut into the profits of doing business overseas, but it is made up in spades by being able to evade taxes, obscure real costs (we do not tax business expenses). We have to create new markets, new products, new industries and invest in them. Enviromental industries, stable and efficent national electrical grid, Commercial exploitation of space, Commercial settlement of the oceans. We need to create the products no one else can and create the demand for those products by being better, less expensive, etc. We are the Jones. Also, money from the US being invested oversea has given the countries the capital to build the industries to allow the jobs to be shipped oversea, and gave those investors tax cuts to do it. Of course with the Fed printing money like mad it might become a moot point as we keep devaluing the dollar which creates pairty much faster then we would like at the exspense of the nest eggs of our elderly.

Great post Term.
I agree that once jobs are "taken" overseas,
they almost NEVER will come back.
I remember when a lot of this crap started in the late 80s.

Many people just sat and let the shit happen.
The time to DO something about all this crap was about 20-30years
ago. It appears Nixon started it before he was impeached than Reagan
kept the ball a rolling!

T o expand on what Anarrus said. He was right on. If you read the papers Thousands of plants are closing in China now because they are'nt worth keeping open. The Owners and managers are shutting the doors and running away leaving behind unpaid workers.
