I was reading a Domms Profile the other day, and was wondering from what I read, is there really a Tailor made Slave/submissive? quote: "You can See, but still be Blind." Sincerely, Ant[;)]

Sure if the Dom(me) is a tailor. He (or She) should be able to make (mold) the submissive into something 'tailor made'. The problem is that the sub is only tailor made for that Dom(me) and may not 'fit' another one.

The phrase "tailor-made" typically means "customized" or "individualized for me". Usually, it refers to something one finds that is absolutely perfect in fit and style for the individual who is looking for it -- or something that one arranges to have made, just for hir. In terms of a "tailor-made" servant, I would say that if a servant comes in, somewhat raw and untrained, or comes from another situation with different training than what that dominant individual requires, having that servant "tailor-made" would include making sure that xhe is trained in what is ideal for -that household-. As an example, very few servants have ever lived in a situation like the one in our household. They may be very submissive, and very subservient, but that is only the raw material to work with. In order to fit into our household, they will have to be diligent about the lessons and mental/physical training that we provide. When they are done, we will have "tailor-made" servants, and they will have the perspective on the world brought about by our training (which will color how they act in almost every situation). However, they would only be "tailor-made" for us. Someone else might not value the things that -we- teach or the way we teach them at all... so a servant that has thrived with us might have had experiences before us that -weren't- a good fit, and, if they should leave us, might find that somewhere -else- would not find what we've prepared them to be useful and might require them to be re-trained. On the other hand, just because a servant -doesn't- fit with us doesn't mean that xhe might not be a perfect fit for someone else. I'd think that any dominant is going to tailor his or her sub/slave to suit his or her own needs and expectations. Tasha

This is a good thread to say something I've always thought was a big part of what it means to be a Dominant within this lifestyle...namely, shaping another human being into exactly what you want and enjoying the power to do so. Maybe I'm wrong but I've always thought this to be a fundamental underlying dynamic. Sure there is always a pecking order in social activities of any flavor but only within BDSM is there not only a great deal of resources to achieve such a goal but people actually willing and interested in exploring the possibilities on a consensual level. For this reason, I find it surprising when I read a post or profile where the Dominant complains of the "work" involved in shaping a sub or slave to suit them. Think of it this way, if you have a sub or slave who will already do whatever you want them to, where's the projection of power? To me, such a situation is not one of Dominance but one of mutual consent. Dominance is an aggressive act, not passive...so to be able to merely give a command and have it followed knowing there will never be a challenge to the contrary seems like it would strip some of the fun away. Yes there couples where the people involved just fit each other perfectly. And though the sub may be molded to fit, the shaping can only be done by the right master. If a sub would respond the same to just any dom or any method, then there would be no need to get to know each other or a need for a profile; just a label of dom or sub and we could assume that we all complement each other. Obiviously not true. But there can be tailor made matches. But don't wait for it. Take a chance or two on a close fit.
