sambamanslilgirl -> sign of the times (11/4/2008 1:52:20 PM)

today at my hunny bunny's school, the entire student body held their own presidential election.

here are the results - Barack Obama won by a huge marginal landslide.

not one student and/or teacher voted for McCain

back to your regularly scheduled election results....

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ChainGoddess -> RE: sign of the times (11/4/2008 4:03:23 PM)

Here's hoping the real result is the same.  It is almost midnight in Ireland now, I've just opened my bottle of vino, and have no intention of seeing my bed tonight as I sit glued to the box watching the results come in.

I am substituting at my local school and you are right on the mark.  I find a lot of the teachers support Obama.  The students also had a mock election with Obama at 197 and McCain at 146..

lronitulstahp -> RE: sign of the times (11/4/2008 7:13:49 PM)

i was on the phone with GT about a week ago.  While checking my mail, i made a remark about a McCain/Palin advert, something like "Oh, Look, i got mail from John McCain!"  From the back seat, a wail of woe from my 7-year old,

"PLEASE Mommy....DON'T VOTE FOR HIM...PLE-A-SS-E-E!!!!!!"

i guess because a few weeks prior to that,  i was trying to give them the fair and balanced take on both candidates, and made a comment about how at one time, i would have voted for McCain.

LOL Tulip... even I could hear the plaintive tone of voice!!

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: sign of the times (11/5/2008 5:32:38 AM)

mine is 6 and i didn't know how much this election really effected her.  she had me help her do the Nick Kids Pick the President thing - she even made sure i didn't vote for the other guy (McCain).

she was very happy showing off her "I Voted" sticker after school.

VirginPotty -> RE: sign of the times (11/5/2008 5:45:26 AM)

When I left work last night it was raining pretty hard. I ran an errand on the other side of town then thought...."I'll drive by the school to see if it's crowded & if it is, I won't vote" cuz you see, I have NO FAITH in either candidate. The school was pretty empty & voting took less than 5 minutes.  I spoke w/a friend last night on the phone and she said it best when she stated, "I didn't vote for one, I voted against the other".
I did vote for Obama only because Sarah Palin's an idot & completely destroyed my vote for McCain.  My daughter asked me whom I voted for & I said, "The lesser of the two evils".  Let's see how "lesser" he really is.

**Eta, before I get bashed for this post, it was NOT a racial remark. I don't care WHAT color the candidate is, ok??  I just hope Al Sharpton doesn't get his own room at the White House.  I'd hate to think of him wandering thru the halls in his jammies[:'(]**

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: sign of the times (11/5/2008 6:16:05 AM)

no one's going to bash you, Potty.  you're simply stating a personal opinion.

if Al Sharpton gets a room at the "crib" (White House), i want a small cabinet post!

Lunalay -> RE: sign of the times (11/5/2008 6:19:09 AM)

Potty, that's what I was telling people when I was trying to convince them to just get up and vote.

"Just vote for the lesser of the two evils. The guy I like." [;)]

[sm=rofl.gif]I just had a vision of Obama inadvertently calling the White House the "Crib" during a Press Conference.

Hey sambamansgirl,   Didn't the city look fantastic last night? I thought it was great that we could all come together and celebrate this joyous event. The trasit systems were up & running and everyone was very peaceful. Not one arrest! A great Democrat and a great and fellow Chicagoan!

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: sign of the times (11/5/2008 1:57:42 PM)

I have a neighbor who is convinced that Obama is the antichrist, and that his election signals the evidence of the rapture and second coming.  I was kind of disappointed when I woke up today and it was SSDD (same shit, different day) as per normal.

it was frickin' fantastic!

we finally came together as one race - the human race.  strangers of all racial, economic, gender, etc backgrounds chatting and cheering like old friends. you should have seen 6 corners (Damen, Milwaukee, and North) in Wicker Park - people were cheering, hugging, and slapping high 5s ...packing every bar around. no one got arrested for disorderly conduct either!

wow!

I am sorry the chaotic entertainment of impending doom has escaped us.  I could have used the chuckles too!
