With tonight being what it is, I was wondering:  Would you either as a sub or a Dom/me, stop seeing your opposite number due to political differences?  I'm not talking LTR, but if you had a playmate that did not agree with you when it came to politics, would you stop seeing that person?

DesFIP -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/4/2008 5:48:28 PM)

I wouldn't get into a relationship with someone who thought so radically differently than me. I need to be damn good friends with someone to have sex/play. I don't do casual. And someone who had wildly differing viewpoints is unlikely to ever be a close friend.

Depends on the issue and how badly we disagreed. There are some things where I just don't want to deal with it.

Sir and I basically believe in everyone having the right to vote and choose for themselves.  Voting to him is a private matter, and to be honest I don't know who he voted for, nor does he know who I voted for. He just was more interested in the fact that I made my own mind up and got myself to the place to vote. Politics would only get in the middle of us, if he refused me the right to vote as I seen fit. But then, I cant see myself ever with someone that would demand that from me.

QandA -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/4/2008 6:06:05 PM)

I'm fairly apolitical (though, yes, I did vote today).  As long as my friend and I were able to agree to disagree and didn't let politics (or religion, or other important things like pizza toppings) get in the way I'd have no problem bottoming to him/her.

*laughs*  When I met Carol, she was a democrat and I was a republican.  Given some time, she fixed me.

At this point I'd stop seeing someone for bringing up politics... [8|]

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/4/2008 7:02:58 PM)

No, they don't have to share my views - I have a pretty eclectic array of friends - but unless I was seriously committed to maintaining a relationship with someone who tried to convert me to their way of thinking, to the point of annoying me, I couldn't see me hanging around indefinitely.

cagliostro -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/4/2008 7:12:26 PM)

Only when they're an a$$hole about it.  Religion can be the same way.  But reallistically, when anyone is oppressive with their opinions, even when I agree, I can't be around them much.  I feel like, Ok.  I got the first fifty times.  Let it go.

moonvine -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/4/2008 7:17:02 PM)

My BFF is the complete opposite of me politically, so we don't talk about it a whole lot.  We joke that we don't need to vote because we would cancel each other out (I did go vote, though).  So I think I could have a relationship with someone who didn't share my political beliefs as long as we agreed to disagree...

MasterSlaveLA -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/4/2008 7:39:23 PM)

Personally, I think it's kinda fun to have a friend or Master who is on the opposite end of the spectrum.  Makes for some juicy debates/arguements!

VampiresLair -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/4/2008 7:40:52 PM)

Fox and I did not discuss politics, he was not allowed to do so because I had no interest in political debates. He and I agreed on the same candidate this time, but I dont necessarily believe that will old true every time and so this year set the precedent.

I have no clue what politics has to do with friendship

StrtbkNamdDesire -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/5/2008 1:30:46 AM)

If I can't respect someone's view and regard it as uninformed, ignorant, or bigoted; that will definitely have an impact on my ability to respect that person wholly. While everyone is certainly entitled to their opinions and perspectives, the more political amongst us find it difficult to accept views on issues on which we place fundamental, primary importance. While it's certainly possible (if not desirable) to have friends whose political positions differ from your own, the respect demanded of any romantic relationship can make opposing parties question each others' motives, desires and beliefs.

JustDarkness -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/5/2008 1:53:52 AM)

I am not so into politics..I do like discussions.
Aslong the partner (and I) can talk normally about it..I don't mind it.
Respect as in many cases for the different views is important.
(or lots of make up  sex..lol)

thishereboi -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/5/2008 4:50:28 AM)

My ex Mistress was and still is very liberal. I never had any problems with that. She is entitled to her opinions just like I am mine.

colouredin -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/5/2008 5:16:01 AM)

Compatability in a relationship is important, I wouldnt be attracted to someone with totally differant political views from my own so it wouldnt be an issue

lusciouslips19 -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/5/2008 5:19:10 AM)

My sir and I voted for different presidents. I respect his reasons but disagreed.
He of course will support the president and give Barack Obama his support.

Well first, i find that odd. your sig line speaks of not condeming views different than your own. Of course, compatibility is important. But there are many levels of compatibility and no one matches on everything. My sir and I have alot in common. Including some political views but not all our political views. He didn't believe Obama had enough experience as an elected anything where McCain had years of experience. Some see this as good, others bad.

I think some day you may find someone who you are very compatible withand he just may have some differing political views. The respect you show to the others viewpoint will show how compatible you really are.

Life lessons are learned through time.

agirl -> RE: BDSM and politics (11/5/2008 5:57:30 AM)

Clearly not. I've known M for approaching a decade and politics and religion haven't been discussed. I have no idea what his political stance is, nor his views on religion. For all I know, we may have wildly different stances on both, but if so, they've never touched us as an *us*.
