i'm not sure if this is a blessing or a curse, but this year, i'll be spending Christmas at home...alone. no tree, no gifts, no family...just me. this is what i get for moving to GA. unfortunately, i am not able to move away and i don't know hardly anyone here. just another day for me this year.

Don't spend it alone then. Find your local shelter or mission and volunteer. They will be more than happy to have the added help. You will meet some wonderful people. Have a sense of holiday the way it should be.

Buy some candy canes and go to your local convalescent home. Pass them out to those who can have them. Just visit. Those people are alone too this time of year and I'm sure they would like a young buck just to lend an ear.
If you have any talent..entertain them.

Sub4hire.. super idea. Volunteering is addictive.. good thinking

Wonderful Idea... and a way to remember what the season is really about ....... giving of yourself .......

One year for x mas I went to the fishes and loaves homeless shelter here with some people from the church and we handed out bagged lunches and toys so that the people who were homeless would have meals and even the not homeless but just poor

michaelGA -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 3:20:31 PM)

it's depressing enough spending the holidays alone, why complicate my already existing depression by going to places where people have been left alone and forgotten. sorry, but these options are not for me. better to stay home alone.

windy135 -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 4:05:53 PM)

give it a chance. Some people wonder "how could a person work with children with cancer.. its sad" My friend is a nurse at a childrens hospital she loves it. She is helping the kids everday. You would be doing a great thing for the people it would make u feel good not depressed.

michaelGA -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 4:14:08 PM)

i don't go looking to be a part of depressing situations as they "do" bring me down further. i don't watch the news, i don't volunteer for anything and i don't donate money to charities. too many variables involved and i don't have the mental numbness to be involved in any of the things listed.

girl4you2 -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 4:56:25 PM)

"all we are saying, is give peace a chance..." you might find you are actually lifted by helping others or to bring about some small change in someone's life. it just might bring about one in yours. can't hurt.

michaelGA -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 5:03:19 PM)

everyone keeps telling me that, but they do not know me or how these things DO depress me to no ends. it's just NOT an option. sorry, i just hate repeating myself.

just try imagining what it must be like to be out on the streets or in a hospital with no means of an out. might give one pause to think on what they have to share. only you can turn the depression around and give someone some hope. for we all survive on hope. perhaps it's worth a think.

michaelGA -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 5:16:52 PM)

i have seen my share of homeless people and do not have what it takes to deal with them, i have enough problems as it is without adding someone elses to mine. it won't happen...perhaps i should not have opened this forum.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 5:51:28 PM)

Guys he's just gonna keep offering reasons why he won't or can't go out and do something instead of staying home alone, I sugest finding some other post to contribute to, this one's just gonna go in circles.

windy135 -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 5:55:12 PM)

What were you looking for when posting this .. sympathy.. attention.. these are ok things to go looking for.. we are all human.. i just have no advice for you

michaelGA -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 5:59:04 PM)

nevermind...everyone seems fixated on volunteer work...i am not. whatever.

IrishMist -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 6:06:55 PM)

Michael, it seems you came here looking for sympathy...all the ohhhhhhh,you poor thing, have to spend the holidays alone........well sorry, while I may have felt sorry for you to start with, and offered my sympathies...I know what it's like to be alone with no family or friends close by..........but your responses here are just plain insulting to those whom you sought out for help. They offered you ways of easing your lonliness.....the sad truth is that obviously YOU ENJOY BEING ALONE FOR THE HOLIDAYS...

either get off your ass and do something so that you are not alone.....or quit complaining about it......you are an adult......act like one.

michaelGA -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 6:16:17 PM)

i do not enjoy being alone, but, but the same token, i do not enjoy going to places that only offer to bring me down further. not everyone likes going to homeless shelters or soup kitchens to make themselves feel better about "helping" those that don't have anything...if society really cared about humanity, these people would have homes and food...i have been there, not going back

if this sounds cold and heartless, i'm sorry...i just think that people go to these places to make themselves feel better and really doesn solve the problem of homelessness or poverty.

forgive me for thinking outside the box here.

and who says that's the reason for going to a homeless shelter? It was suggested so that you would not have to spend the holidays alone. Just being with others is something all that is needed, no matter who those others are.

The point is...instead of sitting at home moping about the fact that you are home alone......DO SOMETHING about it...who cares WHAT it is....as long as you do something to change it.

michaelGA -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 6:45:20 PM)

that may be the case, but as you can see, all the posts had nearly the same thing...nobody offered anything else. also, as i do not have a car, i do not have a way to get to any of these places in the first place.

slaveneedledick -> RE: Spending Christmas Alone (12/17/2005 6:52:15 PM)

Well I spent many Christmas' away from my family, the life of a soldier and I can understand where Michael is coming from. Life does suck when you are away from family and not all people are the type to go to shelters and such to volunteer. But Michael if you came looking for sympathy here you are not going to get much.
