I had a friend who committed suicide 2 years ago.

He was a huge fan of Senator Obama's.

I just left him a note in his livejournal to tell him Obama won.  Except dead people don't read livejournals.

Yes quite lame.

Why would a lifejournal account be still activated if someone has passed away?

How tasteless.

I don't think it's lame.  Call it a tribute to your friend's memory.

First off, my sympathies on the loss of your friend.

And no, your posting a message to him doesn't sound lame to me. It's an outcropping of the age-old yearning to connect afresh with those we have lost.

Thanks...he would have been so very happy today....if only he would have reached out for some help, he might have been here.

Not tasteless at all.. in fact, to me, it's a reasonable thing to do.  Those we love who are gone remain alive as long as someone remembers them.

Not in any way lame.... perhaps the modern equivelent of talking to a grave, or writing a letter to someone you have lost- which helped me in the past.

Neither lame nor tasteless. Touching that you thought of your friend at such a time and I'm only sorry that they're not there to share your joy.

*hugs*

Because livejournal accounts are free standard and are therefore almost never deleted. They did their first purge only a few months ago (maybe six) and the only ones purged were only that hadn't been touched in well over two years.

I don't think this is any more tasteless then leaving roses at a grave or texting "I love you" to the phone of a person who has passed away.

It's something that would have meant a great deal to the person who is no longer with you and it probably means a lot to you to be able to do it. My very best wishes to you during what must be a very bittersweet time. *hugs*

AS.. came4you has already exhibited (in previous posts) the inability to understand that normal humans have at least some degree of empathy.

Just sayin'

Ohh... came4you and I have history. Which is why I didn't touch that part (See mods - I'm being good!) but I figured I could at least educate her on LJ.

i got goosebumps when i read the OP.  i think it was a wonderful thing to do, they are still your friend, no matter where they are.  My mum passed two years ago, has she stopped being my mum just because she is not here?  No.

hugs

I think its a sign of how our minds are grasping the whole INTERNET thing . it IS the equivalent of talking to a grave . and whether you did it unconsciously or not its still a very caring and sweet thing to do . it shows your friend is still in your thoughts , and the fact that you wanted to tell him news he would have loved , shows a level of caring and frienship very rare these days ...

ignore those who are too cynical or ignorant to understand and accept that you did something awesome in memory of a friend you dearly miss
