No surprises this election for me.  And dang it, the Boston Tea Party finished 9th. I hoped we would have done a bit better...."Party like it is 1773!"

i kinda thought that obama would lose the popular vote but win electorally, and we'd end up in another recount situation
but nope :) yay :)

Actually the Florida recount had nothing to do with who won the popular vote.  Popular vote is irrelevant in the US nationally.  The Florida recount was because neither Bush nor Gore had won the electoral vote (270 needed to win), since Florida was "too close to call", and hence its electoral votes could not be awarded.

I cannot believe that we now have a socialist in power. What are we? Canada?

Cheese and rice, drop the "socialist" BS already.  Newsflashes for ya JB:

1. We've had "restribution of wealth" in the US since 1920.  It's called the US Tax Code.  When you have a 35% bracket for the wealthy and a 15% tax bracket for the poor, guess what?  That's restribution of wealth.  By that goofy standard, Reagan, Bush Sr, etc were all "socialists", since they supported the same kind of tax brackets.

2. Obama isn't changing that, except for allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire, which will mean the 35% for the top tax bracket will revert to 38.9%.  If that's "socialism", then hey, I'm all for it.  People making that kind of money can afford an extra 3.9% in taxes.  Especially since they got it as a gift from Dubya for 8 years that increased our deficit.

3. If you're making less than $200,000, you will see a tax reduction (funded from the expiration of the Bush tax cuts) under Obama's tax plan (and also under McCain's tax plan, although those in the $35K-60K range will get three times the reduction under Obama's plan than under McCain's).

So this whole "hold onto your wallet" BS doesn't hold water (unless you're making over $250,000; see point #2).

Don't you have any better arguments other than repeating the catchphrases you hear on talk radio or FoxNews?  Try thinking for yourself for a change, and for FSM's sake do some research before blathering.

The wealthy could invest in tax-free municipal bonds; a number of cities are having trouble finding investors to fund infrastructure projects since the credit crunch.

There you go again, quoting facts and making sense.  That doesn't mix well with watching FoxNews.  [:D]

My biggest surprise is that Obama won. I am so amazed. No re-count, no dodgy stuff.

I love it.

Record turnouts, and the relection of Lyndsey Graham.   At least  he will be in the minority this time.
Oh, and the funniest thing was Elizabeth Dole lost her seat.

[;)] Red states that turned Blue, but then
I was not really that surprised.

IAs for Michigan and Florida, I was disappointed in those 2 states more then anything. The Democrats (with the exception of the Banshee, I mean Hillary) turned their backs on those two states. Did they forget the primaries already?

egads, JillyBean, I'm not Hillary!!!

But I agree with your sentiments.
I wasn't surprised so much at the election, severely dissapointed.  I was surprised at how ill I felt over the results.

For me it was that Al Franken may have lost in Minnesota by under 1,000 votes.  One of the few sweet spots for me...made all the sweeter by the closeness of the race. There will probably have to be a recount but if the vote holds, Coleman will win.  Franken is a nasty person and not having him in Washington for six years at least eliminates one big pain in the ass.  He can go on the road and make a fortune as a comedian telling Sarah Palin jokes and probably get a job replacing Keith Olbermann on MSNBC when they take that lunatic away some day.

DarkSteven -> RE: What was the biggest surprise of the election to you? (11/6/2008 1:05:57 AM)

1. The Obama campaign.  Meticulous, well-run, smooth.  I might expect to see something like that from a Rep, but not a Dem candidate.

2. Palin.  I cannot believe that she was not vetted, and I cannot believe that she was taken seriously for a minute, and continues to command any following.
