so, i was wrong about who would win...still...there wasn't anyone worth voting for. i still will never vote, noting there has changed. in fact, since there was ONLY two people running, it only strengthens my disbelief in the voting system, politics...and America in general. just goes to show that, when presented with two piles of manure, people will still go out in force to pick the one they believe stinks less than the other. such is the way of "Democracy", huh?

There are always other voting options.  One need not choose between two you prefer not to vote for.  There are alternative candidates, and there is always the "write in"...which I did, BTW.

You have the right to not vote, though I consider it irresponsible in the extreme to not do so.  Those who don't utilize the right to vote, IMO, have no business opening their mouths whatsover with regard to anything political or government related.  Participate or shut the fuck up.

I think he was saying the opposite.

i don't think you're actually hearing his words correctly. here's the written text from that video, in case you missed something:

I have solved this political dilemma in a very direct way: I don't vote. On Election Day, I stay home. I firmly believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain. Now, some people like to twist that around. They say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain,' but where's the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent politicians, and they get into office and screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You voted them in. You caused the problem. You have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote -- who did not even leave the house on Election Day -- am in no way responsible for that these politicians have done and have every right to complain about the mess that you created." George Carlin

moonvine -> RE: i admit it, i was wrong (11/5/2008 10:00:36 PM)

You could write yourself in, if you wanted.

If there really isn't anyone I want to vote for, I always write in Dennis Kucinich, who I think is the best thing since sliced bread.  Now that probably confuses them down here in Travis County, since Rep Kucinich is in Ohio.[:D]

personally, although I heard what CArlin said, I took it more as an indictment of American's apathy when it comes to educating themselves on the candidates and issues..on NAtional, State and local levels...
