I'm someone who's lived in this country my entire life and paid taxes personally for at least 23 years.  Who are you again?

FullfigRIMaam -> RE: World Wide Cheers for Barack Obama! (11/6/2008 5:57:27 AM)

I've spoken to people in at least 3 other countries who were yelling and screaming with excitement and renewed hope about his election...  I've also seen people in several countries cheering his election on tv in an amazingly touching way.   I believe we just got a second chance.   M

The admiration is toward a choice, not America. We are the same people you have been downing all along.

I find this insulting.

Really?  What about the 56,499,486 voters who voted Republican (you know, the cretins you abhor?)  64,058,702 voted for Obama.  (latest cnn numbers).  The admiration may be towards the 64 million voters (of whom I was one), but not towards the 56 million who voted as you didn't want.  So it is admiration for a choice.  I suppose the world can continue reviling the other 56 million.  [8|]

In what way?

You admire the choice some of my fellow citizens made. I did not vote for Mr. Obama.

I believe he was the better choice, but my stance on choosing someone to follow, is not done by picking the better choice. I wouldn’t choose a Dom that way; I couldn’t bring myself to choose a world representative that way either.

I stand by my statement.

Bitter much?

I dont mind you standing by your statement, but you are talking about other people, you are saying that it has had no impact on peoples view of america, as someone who isnt american i feel that i can respond that personally i disagree with your generalisation because it impacted on mine.

I wouldn't want to be in Obama's shoes for anything.  When he proves he has 'feet of clay' lots of people are in for a disappointment.  The first time he does something unpopular with the rest of the world (and he will, in 4 years, have to do something that others disagree with), he's going to fall off that ivory tower everyone has built for him and it may be a difficult fall.  The weird thing is - I don't think he's put himself up there, but he's been put up there all the same.

You mistake admiration for like, or affection. Nobody but America admires America. A nation, by definition, will hold itself in the highest estime.

I believe this. I have buddies in 2 countries and one BEGGED me to vote obama.   I am frank with him as we go back along way. He is releived we now take a new path.

I do think tho - that a fair number of people are waiting to see the walk.

But think of it this way.  overnight a billion people on the planet went from despondent to elated/hope;  so what is human capital worth.   I am pumped up cause human capital is the item we need to solve the worlds problems....   what a great day.
