Musicmystery -> Hymn #365 (11/6/2008 10:48:42 PM)

A minister was completing a temperance sermon. With great emphasis he said, "If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river."

With even greater emphasis he said, "And if I had
All the wine in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river."

And then finally, shaking his fist in the air, he
Said, "And if I had all the whiskey in the world,
I'd take it and pour it into the river."

Sermon complete, he sat down.

The song leader stood very cautiously and announced
With a smile, nearly laughing, "For our closing song,
Let us sing Hymn #365, "Shall We Gather at the River."

True, and brief story (as told by my grandmother).

The spear side of my family is from Owensboro Kentucky. There are a couple of distilleries there, or at least there were. At some point in the 30's or 40's there was a fire at one of them and several warehouses were affected. As the buildings burned and crumbled, some of the barrels fell and were engulfed in the flames. Others rolled down the hill and broke apart on the way down. So large were these warehouses, and with so many barrels, that a small river of whiskey developed at the base of the hill. Reportedly people gathered whatever vessels could be found and dipped into this blessed river.

i just had a thought, since they've started naming hurricanes after both men and women, thus creating himacanes...since they have "Hymns" will they come up with "Hers" too?

LOL
