ORIGINAL: zengiz Well, today I spoke with a Pro Domme via this here site. And the price for an hour is just extraordinary! Of course. ProDommes don't work for $10/hour. I'm a lifestyle Domme, have never worked as a pro - that said, I've known quite a few over the years and have a lot of respect for them. Assumming that you spoke with a Pro who really does treat this like a profession, she's already invested $$$$$ in: an extensive variety of equipment (a simple flogger starts at about $100, a good signal whip at least $300), an extensive wardrobe (fetish wear is VERY expensive - easily a couple hundred dollars per outfit), an equiped dungeon (cost of rent/purchasing space plus furnishing it), advertising (setting up a professional website, advertising in BDSM-specific publications, a dedicated phone line, a computer and email, etc), plus an accountant and a lawyer on retainer. Add into that the time and effort learning about BDSM (books, DVDs, seminars, conferences, etc), honing her skills, spending time vetting out potential clients (most of whom are simply wasting her time), spending a great deal of time beforehand preparing for your scene and spending time afterwards cleaning up after your scene, etc. I'm sure more could be added to this list, but you get the idea. It's mind boggling how much really goes into a "simple one hour appointment" with a ProDomme. What you're paying for is your % for use of all of the above, not just an hour of a woman's time who happens to have all of the above. A couple hundred dollars per hour is the norm, and for many prodommes, they're not making a huge profit even charging that. On the flip side - as a lifestyle Domme - I've invested in the education, the equipment, have a room in my home as a dedicated playspace - and while I've done it because it's something that *I* wanted, I'll tell you - it's rather irksome when subs (often the inexperienced) take it for granted that all of these things are available to them and all they have to contribute is showing up. I used to do it part time, one of the reasons because nobody would teach me for free and fair is fair, if a Pro teaches you, she does want something back, why should she waste her time for nothing? I had no issue with that, the money went almost exclusively into equipment and fetish wear. The thigh high boots somebody might admire cost more than a session, toys and whips (my fondness), the prices are staggering. I don't have play space at home, but certainly most toys and then some and yes, it is a bit tiresome if people just take it for granted and then get all snobbish and cranky that you don't have your own basement (including medical room) outfitted as the perfect dungeon, preferably when they also hand you a shopping list with what they want you to do to them and stress it is "for your pleasure", bahhhh
