TLTEDDY2 -> Alpha Beta (11/10/2008 6:16:06 PM)

Could someone please explain to me what it means when someone says they are "Alpha"  or  "Beta"

JessieMe -> RE: Alpha Beta (11/10/2008 6:22:15 PM)

Alpha is the primary or "Top Dog" if you will

Beta is the secondary mostly used when speaking of subsequent subs/slaves in a household/relationship.

I was thinking Alpha would be a good name for my next beta. Darth Beta just died, so it's time for a new one.

Alpha sub/slave is the senior one in the house of more than one,,not everyone goes by these names,or see's it this way.in my House the Alpha runs the House(as per my words and or rules)and the beta while i am gone to work or somewhere else where there may be gaps in time enuf to warrant this.

i never knew what people meant by those two for a long time, so if someone would ask what sort i was, i would verbally pronounce it as saying "i'm betta".  if someone asks what i'm "betta dan" i'd just say "betta dan alpha!". [8|]

You would have to ask the person(s) who use it what it means to them.

Some of the ways I have seen it used in regards to poly d/s relationships:

Alpha is a job description and the best person for the job is alpha.  Their job is to manage the others so that the dominants wants/instructions are completed.

Alpha means they are the first submissive in the relationship.

Alpha means that they are the most important/valuable submissive in the relationship.

Many times when I hear people talk about needing alpha/beta, it is often to placate the insecurities of one so that others can be brought into the relationship.  Instead of dealing with the insecurities, a structure is devised in hopes of not having to be faced with them.  The problem though is that insecurities will be expressed one way or another and the stability of the relationship will be threatened.
