I've never really understood the whole electoral thing.

lol..........touche' and correct!
Although I am sure it is a conspiracy on behalf of the Obama supporters to lengthen the pain of the Bush Administration so that we all appreciate him that much more!
Or time to further alter his birth certificate so that he will be our first foriegn born President, or 100 other unlikely unproven B.S. statements and conjured up lies.

It is ver important marie.

A simple explination is this...

Without it, only major population centers and the states that contain them would mean anything. With it... every state is important/

Despite the YouTube video clip above, I think the issue of Mr. Obama's citizenship is moot.  Evidence can be manufactured and planted, and even if Obama isn't a naturally-born U.S. citizen, he's had more than enough time to take care of the matter.

And if there were a problem, dontcha think the Republicans would have been all over it already?

I've lost track of how many times this was refuted during the campaign....

I realize that your question is rhetorical, but...   I do not know that, if there was a valid issue regarding Obama's U.S. citizenship, the Repuiblican Party would choose to make that a focal point of their 2008 Presidential campaign.

Perhaps the issue was valid, but for some reason unknown to myself, the Republican Party chose not to pursue it -- much like the Republican Party refused to pursue the more obvious association issues of Tony Rezco and Rev. Wright, abd yet chose to pursue lines of attack that were weak and tenuous at best, such as the Bill Ayers association.

Barack Obama has a track record of broken promises and going back on his word during his short tenure as a United States Senator.  And yet, this line of attack seemed diluted, diminished and pushed far into the background during the Presidential Campaign.  Attacking Barack Obama's credibility by using his own record against him would have effectively crippled his campaign; after all, he promises much, but what if he doesn't come through with his promises?  What if his promises for hope and change are merely (more) lies?

I'm not attacking Barack Obama here.  I'm just saying that I think the Republican Party had a suspiciously poor strategy -- all in my own humble opinion, of course.

I think the Republican Party did a remarkably poor job with McCain's campaign.  Perhaps that was their way of punishing McCain (and Palin) for going against the Republican Party in the past and threatening to expose the corruption in Washington if elected into office?

I'm no Washington insider so I don't know.  I'm just speaking from my own point of view, and I'm merely asking questions.

What's the purpose of "punishing" McCain and Palin and losing the White House? And why punish Palin when she toes the Repub line (aside from collateral damage from punishing McCain)?

the media or communist news network elected this guy  Arnold couldn't run so if in fact he's not naturalized then he shouldn't be allowed the position

Again, I do not know.

However, my suspicion is that the Republican Party may use Palin and McCain to teach others a lesson: do not call out corrupt politicians, particularly the members/leaders of your own party, and hold them accountable.

John McCain promised to cut pork-barrel spending and publish the names of Congressmen and Senators who author such bills.  Sarah Palin took down the leaders of the Alaskan Republican Party and called them on their corruption.

Losing the White House may not be a bad idea, considering the current sad state of affairs.  Let Barry take the helm (and the blame) for the next 4 to 8 years, and the Republican Party can then take its turn asking the people  if they want a repeat of the past 8 years.

I'm no expert, that's fer shure.  I can only guess from the carefully-filtered information I'm fed by both parties and the media.

I think the Republican Party did a remarkably poor job with McCain's campaign.

Actually the McCain campaign did a remarkably poor job with McCain's campaign.  The Republican Party doesn't run it--they just fund it after the candidate becomes the official nominee (which McCain was as of March 4).  However they would not know if they were up against Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama until June 3.

McCain's changed campaign managers midstream, then compounded the mistake by not informing the old one.  The new one (a Karl Rove protege) decided to go negative, and that tactic rebounded.

That was just one of his/their many blunders (not the least of which was selecting Sarah Palin).  The Obama campaign, OTOH, had no such upsets, and spent their money wisely.

Hi marie....As I understand it the electoral college is very important and useful in keeping us united as a nation. It is meant to keep relatively small but densely populated areas from controlling the nation. If it weren’t for the college and we went strictly by popular vote the voters of states like Utah and Montana would have no say in the election.
The formula for electoral votes is tilted in favor of small population states.

This is meant to balance urban and country and keep from alienating those in control of large land areas but small populations.

It had another purpose in the distance past that does not fit today. Years ago when populations were small it was designed to keep one man for unduly influencing the electorates.  Otherwise it was for the elite of the time to insure a person that was not qualified from winning an election.

And... what would be wrong with that, exactly [8D] ?

Actually with McCains conceding the election Obama is still the President elect via Popular vote as well as Electoral Seats won.
