I'm the office Manager for a Service Rig Company.

The mere fact that I access this site from work pretty much means the company knows what I'm into. I'm also non denying when it comes to my life choses. That means I don't volunteer information but I don't lie about it either.

I agree some people need to be more wary but if you are going to be on the internet realise there is a chance you are going to get caught. Picture or not.

Nothing comes up for me with both my Real name and my screen/scene name. Guess I'm lucky

I use the same usuername on every site I belong to as well. I'm just not important enough to link too I guess hehehe

After I graduate from college (I'm a junior) and start making professional contacts/go to grad school, I won't be posting any pictures- face or rather identifiable tattoo.

Status: offline 		Got to admit. This has been an interesting thread so far and made me rethink my own profile. While I do have a picture of myself on my profile. I have never really worried over it as far as work is concerned as it has never been a job I considered I would keep for the rest of my life. And out of all the people I talk to here. Less than a handfull know more about me than the city I live in and that I like James Brown:) . But now  as I am starting a job that means more to me and have more to loose. I am considering changing the pic to something a little less obvious. As people do judge you by how they perceive you to be as much as by the person you really are.  And as someone else pointed out I do not live in one of the more liberal states.

I have actually done this with other id's before just to see what was out there. Still it was kinda freaky to have my CM profile come up on google when I tried it.  And apparently there are a few people on actual travel sites with the same id spelled the same way. So someone looking for one of these people could run across my profile by accident. That part bothered me more actually.

And while were on the subject of web databases.  I got a message from a sub today explaining her site id to me as I has asked for. Which unexpectedly to me. Turned out to be a shortened version of her name. All three names. Now it is possible these are not her real names but at the moment I have no reason to doubt this. So a reminder of basic net safety seems to in order as well.  Never give someone you do not know well or have not met in person your full real name. In a few seconds they can have your phone number your address and many other interesting tidbits about you. I remember the first time I told a lady I met  on the net this. We had been talking on one site  for awhile and went to another one where she was using her name as her id on that site . I told her to go to one of the people search sites and put her name into the search function. She was really freaked out when it gave out her own address and phone number and realized that anyone who enterered that site and saw her id could do the same thing. Without ever speaking a word to her directly.

Status: offline 		I must say I was amazed when I Googled my collarme name and it came right up on the Google search engine. Not only did my profile come up but some of my posts in the message boards as well. Hmmm....seems like someone is always watching...LOL

For my real name I removed all traces of me from the Internet years ago. This was when the search engines and web crawlers were just getting started. I was able to have my name removed back then. Between that and having an unlisted phone number when I type my real name in nothing comes up. Even the pay search enigines like Intellius have no information on me. I did this simply to prevent ID theft and I feel my business is just that.

Now I am going to have to Google all my friends names..... never know what i just might find!

Status: offline 		A few years ago, I didn't get a job because of my old domain/blog. My attitude now is pretty much the same as it was back then: I'd rather not work for someone who is so petty and ridiculous as to care what I do when I'm not at work.

So, now I work for myself!

I am not fearful that my employer would find that I am a member of this site, because they are very easy going.  I am more worried that their customers would be able to identify me and it would affect their overall business.  Very willing to share photos after a friendly email, though. Status: offline 		If one's job was indeed in question by an employeer, what's to keep him or her from simply saying that it's one of many fake accounts and someone is simply using his photos? That is, assuming the photos were |portrait-like|, not NSWF material...

Since I have gotten a recent promotion into Substance Abuse Counselor I do not have to fear for my job as much as I did when I was a Corrections Officer I.  I can understand what you are talking about my oldest son is a Correction Officer in another state and one of his co-workers had gotten fired because of a picture on myspace that was a shot of said Officer drinking an alcoholic beverage.  While policy states that an Officer is not allowed to do or represent the Department in a negative light while in uniform this would leads each person to do as they wish while not in uniform. 
I can fully understand and appreciate your position and would encourage you to keep your face to yourself :)

If it is a question about ethics an employer such as a school does not need anything more than a photo that would question your character to let you go.  Again I would strongly suggest anyone that is in a field that requires image of that company, business, ect.... to be kept in high stand to keep those photos off the web.

President Bush has shredded the Bill of Rights into a million pieces of paper to go with his dad's million points of light.

It's no better in 'big brother' England, where they have cameras running facial reckognition software just about everywhere.

Wherever you post ANYTHING on the Internet, it becomes public and ANYONE can find it and look at it. Try Googling your name-you might be surprised how much stuff you find about yourself!

Technology is far outpacing the moral and ethical discussion about how it should be used (and not used!).

Hopefully, President Obama will have the insight to temper the Govt's need for terrorist information against their desire to spy on law abiding citizens. We can only hope!

That said, don't hold your breath. Where I live (CA) though Obama won by a landslide here, gay marriage was also declared illegal the same day!

Status: offline 		I am cautious in that I have a headless pic here deliberately. It could be possible that someone IDs Me from the corset, but not impossible that someone else has one just like it! However, as I do not use My "real" name here ever, My posts here do not pop up in google. Someone would have to know that I refer to Myself as Maam Jay to get those, and that's not something I mention outside of safe places. I would consider it less than likely that someone entirely vanilla would know collarme exists or think to look for Me here. When I am working for someone I would NEVER use a work computer to access personal emails or chat on msn or visit such sites, would never use the screen names I use here. While I do use the name violet out there ... well googling that isn't going to get anyone far LOL! Some common sense security goes a long way.

Edited to add: I did just google my real names again for the fun of it and it took till items 26 and 34 to be the real me! What's fascinating was that some of them were in closely related fields but I've never come across them professionally. So I'm feeling pretty secure ...

Status: offline 		Interesting thread, good points raised.... I work in childcare yet I chose to post my pics. Mine are fairly fuzzy and low quality but I think I may be recognised. I work as a nanny so I only have 2 employers, no other workmates to worry about. And I know that they dont use this site. When I start my next job search, as this job has limited time before the kids are too old to need a nanny, I may take my pics down. But the only way a potential employer could see them is be being on here anyway- no amount of googling my real name will find me on here. All it leads to is my facebook, completely vanilla and normal, and a charecter in an erotic novel!

Spinninsweetness is the id I use for all my kink purposes. Here, bondage.com, informed consent etc etc. And that is all that comes up on google, with my alternative facebook which I created to join kink groups but now I dont use.

If I had a different job, not working with nippers, I would join kink groups from my real me facebook. I would be out, and I wouldnt care if my family knows it. My mum saw bruises once and now jokes that I charge to whip men..... erm no mum, really really the wrong end of the stick!

Status: offline 		I won't post my picture on a site, just due to being cautious and I also worked with kids on a part time basis for a while also, so I had to keep my "deviant" (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) thoughts to myself.

My cautiousness started at one of the jobs I worked at a few years ago. 12 people were fired over stuff that happened outside of work, that got brought into work and just exploded exponetially.   After seeing that, I never, never mix my job with my outside interests that could compromise me.   I'll share that I love to read, adore celtic music, and love musicals, but that's it.

I work at a non-profit company that I absolutely adore and they love me.  I am not about to screw up my job.   Yes, I have to hide my kink tendencies, but again...to be in a job that does something meaningful for so many people, I'm willing to sacrifice the openness.

and permanent!

Guess it depends a lott on the job, but often private life doesn't endanger a job.
(Although a boss can ofcourse fire you for beeing here..using other reasons)

My experience is that if your employer wants to get rid of you, they can find a reason.  So, if your employer decides they don't like your lifestyle, you might find yourself passed up for a promotion for "not meeting targets", or let go for "not being a team player" or something. 

There are laws, but most employers are smart enough to work around them.
