So my spouse went into the hospital for some medical tests and the bills are coming in.

We got a bill from a Doctor we did not know. So I looked into it, and it seems (this is the Dr's reason for the bill) he looked at her chart by mistake but since he looked at it he billed us $578.00 for his time

The hospital even put on a charge calling it a Doctors visit and charged us over $600.

No we are not paying it, let them take me to court.

This is getting nuts

Who ever says we don't need medical reform is nuts

Mom was complaining about phone menus.  She said they should hire a receptionist like they are supposed to.  I agree with mom.

Think about how much waste there is in medicare.    Locally we dont have immediate care centers here, but if one is in dire need, a dr can fit you in pretty fast.  this avoids the higher fees.

However- I swtiched DRs recently.   The DR always put patients thru a battery of tests in office. OK- so I have 3 or 4 rounds of baseline.  But it really is not needed every visit.

I will return someday, so as to compare baselines,  but meanwhile I see no point to waiting hours on end and testing, when one doesnt feel well one doesnt want to be hastled.

I see the med field has to put one thru the steps.  They know ABC med wont work for you, but can not percribe XYZ until  ABC is shown to fail.

The racket....  isnt to user friendly.    I recall getting ragged out for not handling 2 appointments in one day.    Endless sessions of physical therapy.  asrghh.  No more.

hunky maybe bringing you medical records and recent tests will bypass that.

I feel ya on the ABC vs XYZ meds that work, in my case some dr flatly refuse, I know what works for me and what doesnt.

Medicare only pays for tests necesssary for determining an illness. They dont pay for routine test except once and that has to be done prior to the 6 month period after qualifing. Found that out the hard way getting a full check up from head to toe.

Dentists are worse, I need major work on mine and  cant even afford the 180 initial exam required even if its a sliding scale office.

Sav, Im ok- thanks for your love.  :-)

I got the dental exam- but now am too flakey to get the 8 + fillings. I am simply out of whack.

I wanted the carpal surgery, but the referral was to an orthopedic dr- which isnt a surgeon.   Thank god my pain levels are with in reason.  I am so blessed.

I find that drs want their own tests.  My last Dr IS ON THE BOARD AT THE HOSPITAL oops, and it is how he does things.   yet- the liptor was frying my liver.  so I would like to delete ALL MEDS.

any new formula of I am suspicious of.

I dont know why dental cleanings went up so high.   I thought it was a local flaw.

I planned to go last minute appt now.

Im supposed to buy a water piuc for the gums,.  hha- a plastic peice of junk that wont work- yeah okkkkkkkkkkk.  /

This is the main reason that I demand any sub/slave of mine either work or have another source of income. Preferably a job with insurance benefits.

speaking of which- I am not getting a flu shot this year.

or the mist.

I dont trust them.  I might get sick- but it isnt  the bad that the shots could cause.  I read the the bird flu is in the shots and can be activated.  Look how vitamin C studies have been suppressed.  Look at how vit C will become a RX in 2010, due to CAFTA, CODEX.  in fact all vits beyomnd the daily rec allowance will become dr rxs.  same goes with dandelions.   We agreed to WTO, we agreed to sureender our soverignty.   So the days of vit, minerals and health foods are numbered.

I dont have a choice getting a flu shot. My sister said I get one or she is kicking out to the street till flu season is over.  This will be the first one I ever had tho. At least medicare pays 100% for them.

I got stuck with test that medicare wouldnt pay that I was unaware of....okay I didnt read the medicare benefit plan. I just have the original medicare not a medicare insurance program.
Specifically excluded is lipids (sp) and colesterol test. Blows my mind since they are targeted for preventive reasons.  They pay for mamograms, so at least the breaties get a heads up, to hell with the heart if you cant afford a $188.00 test for those two.

Hell my dr even charged two 25.00 fees to draw the blood. When I recieved my medicare payment breakdown it said those charges were more than likely not mentioned and to refuse to pay them based on their medicare contract with the dr.  Will know tomorrow if I have any luck.

I never get the flu shot, seems like one of those things created just to get even more money out of us.

Hell they sell them everywhere, when I flew to Vegas a couple of weeks ago they where selling flu shots for $45 at O'hare.  I mean if you can get the dam shot at the airport, how can it be anything other than a money maker

flu shots are created from dead virus cells...... they can not be reactivated or make you sick and they don't have bird flu in them...... it's a myth..... a bad one.....don't get medical advice from random websites and chat boards.

Hmmm. Now I am going to see my doctor today about recurring headaches. It will cost me nothing. Are you sure that the Canadian health care system is so bad?

Just as a comparrison, in the UK you can get your jab on the NHS, but if you do go private or elsewhere it costs around £10.

The shot is made from dead cells.  The mist has live cells.

Yea, well with Private over here they are taking us to the bank.

I was just overseas and had to get e prescription filled, here it runs around $200 in Greece it cost me 2 Euros.

It was just anounced that Obama's health care plan will cost about 75 Billion, or less than 2 months of the war and cover 95% of the country.  I wonder how the GOP will fight against that

Hmm, he read it by mistake and billed you $578 for his time?
To paraphrase Jim Cramer on "Mad Money"; "and these are the same people who think auto workers are overpaid at $70k per year?"

we don't need socialized medicine.

sorry, no one has a right to healthcare. if you are sick, you buy the cure and the treatment or find charitous individuals who will help you. it should not be forced upon anyone else.

Never said it should be a right, if you read the post I said it needed reform, just like our banking industry which had no oversight for 8 years.

Just wait, you're young, one day when you get turned down for health insurance because it is a for profit business and they will lose money on you, see of your opinoin changes then.

Hell, our insurance went from 425 a month to over 1800 in less than 4 years, with 3 people on the policy, ages 48, 30, 1 year, and we are all basically healthy.

Health costs have gotten out of control and something needs to change.

Just as an aside, if you think you are being misbilled, make sure you put it in writing back to the Hospital AND cc the doctor whose bill you are disputing as well as your primary doctor on the letter, AND bcc the credit bureaus because the first thing they will attempt to hit is your credit rating.  This way if they don't write off the bill, and you do get taken to court, you have paperwork showing your attempts to clarify a disputed bill.  Also tell them to put everything in writing to you, and that you want the detailed billing of this specific doctor and why you are being billed.  Always answer them in writing, even if you speak to them on the telephone follow up with a written correspondence that states the date, time and who you spoke to (with first and last name and some kind of ID) as well as summarizes your conversation stating words like this will confirm, if my understanding is incorrect please respond in writing etc.  This latter part will be in case they don't put things in writing to you, especially if they fail to respond to anything they feel you misunderstand. This also keeps track of the calls you have had as well as summarizing each one. State with each call you would like interaction to be in writing and make sure you note that you said that in each letter you send summarizing the call.  And i am sure it needs not be said, keep a copy of everything you send them.

Many times if you don't dispute it aggressively, they will simply take that as your agreement you owe the money but won't pay, but many times if you do dispute it in writing and aggressively, they will write it off - especially the doctor may which is why you cc him on everything.  What they will take you to court for is to garnish your income, and you will want to show the court that you have aggressively and in writing disputed the bill they are trying to force you to pay and NOT that you simply aren't paying a bill you agree you owe.

Courts love paperwork, and you can always show the court that the reason you haven't paid is because a dispute NOT a unwillingness to pay a legit bill.  Also, i would get the medical records that include of the visit from the doctor as well as asking them to indicate where this doctor was asked to consult and by whom.  This should be in the records also.

Good luck, i would make sure you actively dispute this in writing and get paperwork, in case you are brought into court.
