Not too sure where to post this.

My hair has grown long, finally, but I am having trouble keeping up with having it 'reblonded', LOL.  Gawd, I hate having my roots show.

Anyone here have experience with hair weaves?

I want to know how long they last; how much they cost; how to find a talented stylist (I live in Cleveland) and so forth.

Thanks, folks.

Well it depends on if you use glue and glue them in or sew them in. Typically you don't really want to use glue especially if the person doesn't know what they are doing they don't last as long. Depending on how long you want them is going to be your price base also, if you are using glue or sewing is also a price factor. Finding a stylist is harder. I've found that most of the people that can do a good weave are working out of their houses and not salons. Typically though you can call around for prices and get a consultation and pick the one you like best. It works the same as finding a regular hairstylist.

Couple of days ago I met a blonde female that coloured her hair dark red. Then there are people with small noses that want huge noses and other people with huge noses that want small noses. Then there are people like me, who sometimes shave their beard and other days do not shave their beard.

or natural red heads who dye their hair black [:(]

Rule...you inspired me. I am going to dye my red hair blonde, enlarge my nose, and shave my beard every other day!!

I have known people who had weaves, they were sewn to their own hair. I am not sure how this would help you though. Your real hair would still show and the roots will still come out grey.

BBBTBW -> RE: Hair Weaves (11/14/2008 6:56:48 AM)

I have much experience with hair weaves.  Thishereboi is correct in that your roots will still show.  Since you say you have long hair, why in the world would you want a weave unless it is to make it appear thicker?

There are a few different techniques to attaching extension hair.
  • As mentioned there is glue...messy, gunky and requires some skill and techinique
  • Sewing - longer lasting, more secure, painful depending on techique, if you get tired of it, you have wasted your time and money
  • There are clips you can sew onto the track so that your extension hair can be taken out daily, you can do this yourself.
  • There is Tap Hair.  This is done by taking a special track that has a heatable hair glue on the track, you cut it to the width you want and wrap it around a portion of your hair, then take a flat iron or curling iron and melt the glue.  This is generally more for the fun and funky crowd....
  • I have heard of a new technique where they actually braid extension hair into your hair and it gives the appearance of being your naturally grown hair.

You can also get a weave where your real hair doesn't show, but from what I have seen of those types of weaves, they are tacky.  You never know though.  you might find a stylist that is really good.  Make sure they have pictures and references.

As for where to get it done well, I would say go to a  hair salon that specializes in braiding and weaving.  Look on the internet in your area...use search words like Weaving, Braiding, Jamaican hair etc.

Be Blessed in your search.
