Any tips on how to spot the fakes? Some are obvious, but others are not so.

What's the prevailing wisdom on overseas contacts?

Searching for sexual contacts on the internet is frustrating these days! Much more so than it was 15 years ago (the last time I went through this shit).

Thank you so much for any wisdom on this pain-in-the-ass subject!

Well i for one am completely fake, a plastic knockoff. Not many people will tell you that, but i believe in being completely open and honest.

Well, that is a tough one.  Yet, a much better question than the usual comment of 'you are ALL fakes' or 'why so MANY fakes'.

I usually wouldn't answer this type of question because weeding out fakes comes as naturally as breathing to me.....

In my opinion:

Lack of information on a profile: in general the profile was created quickly, in haste in hope of a bite or two.

Picture quality: The person or background looks 'model-ish'. You know what I mean.  Their profile states they are 5'3, 104lbs yet the picture in relation to a computer in background they seem 5'11 and 210lbs.  The obvious.

The 'I will do anything' for love type: If they are submissive they claim to be so passive they will lick sh*t off a cracker for you(yet, they want to remain free spirited lol), If Dominant/Sadist: 'I will beat you, if you only if like it' type.

As for overseas searching, no.  There is no reason for 'me' to need someone in another continent.  There are too many fish in the sea in these parts.  If I started broadening my scope to reach other non-landlocked areas, I must have become desperate.

Up to you though.  Some like to keep every option open, I would save overseas options for a 'last man on earth' last resort scenerio though.

I have talked with a lot of "real" people from England and Australia.  Most of Western Europe seems to be comfortable with BDSM.  While I will write back and forth with them I would have no interest in a long distance relationship like that.

Lick them. If they taste like candy, they are fake. I'm made of butterscotch. Also, if they hit you for licking them they are fake.

If i get licked....on the arm, for example...and then just fall over onto my back and create a situation....does that make me real or fake...im too confused at this point?

The more they want from you--information, photos, contact--and the less they are willing to give--real verifiable information, current photos, messages/emails/etc replied to in less than a week--is an excellent indicator of falseness. The ultimate sign of fake is the passive-aggressiveness when you don't do things the way they want, nevermind the role they claim.

While I work odd hours, messages with childish writing full of misspellings (that a basic spell-check would catch) that are sent with varying photographs (if any) at hours which coincide with typical work, child and spouse breaks are amazing indicators that the "will do anything just dominant me!!!" is just someone who will type as little of whatever as will get them someone who will pretend with them. Those are fakes to me because they are not what I seek and pretending to be so (in whatever thinking makes them certain I will immediately change my mind) in order to send me silly messages and then block replies (should I be so inclined to acknowledge the crap) is just wasting time for everyone.

Admit you're married and seeking a fling with leather costumes and you'll get a much better response than claiming otherwise. Then I would consider you real. A real shite, but to each their own.

LOL at Termy's being 'desperate'.  I don't think I know anyone who gives less of a crap about what people think than you, he he.
 
I guess what you wish to know, Op, is which emails you recieve are worth responding to?
 
I don't know if this will help but here are some I use:
 
Lives in another country, has nothing in his profile, and asks me to go to yahell IM.  Likewise with same guy writing a one word 'hi'.
 
Lives overseas somewhere and has fallen in love with me, proposes marriage, yadda yadda yadda.  Likewise, of course, with anyone offering me money 'if only' I will give them my banking information.
 
Sounds interesting but is not single.  I will write once and offer my friendship.  If I get back anything sounding remotely like 'but I sooo wanted to f**k you' I just use block.
 
There are others, but it's a personal choice thing, and I don't know who trolls you.
 
One last thing:  I no longer use yahell IM much anymore, and only then if I want to leave an offline for someone to call me.  Since most people have voice mail, this is rarely needed, but I sometimes use yahell IM to contact a friend overseas.  I love that feature...would have bought a mic sooner.  O man, those accents!  Don't get me started!

Fake what?  I don't think artifical intelligence has advanced to the point where you need wonder if a human has emailed you, LOL.
 
If you're asking how to stop folks from trolling you, my advice is don't leave CM, don't give out yr IM or private email address, etc., till you have reached a point you are ready/interested.
 
I 'pull the trigger' pretty quickly under some circumstances, but your mileage may vary.

P.S. I just noticed what a hunky man you are, OP.  I'm not surprised you're getting trolled a lot.  I guess you have to choose whether to display your hunkiness to both trolls and non-trolls alike.  It's a personal choice.

How the hell did I get into this without getting this. The only thing I am desperate for is a new job, making maybe two grand a week. I will never be desperate for companionship of any kind. Other things take up the rest of my time. Not fruitful things but I enjoy them.

I can read, write, listen to and play music. I just did not catch that. I am about as desperate as the head of IG Farben right now. I may be low on money but this isn't the first time, and I doubt it will be the last.

So how did I get into this without getting into this ?

I honestly don't understand why anyone would be fake. Eventually you meet. Why go through all this ? I am not fake. I will meet you but don't expect an Addonnis. I am a slightly overweight dark haired Man who has no right to call myself a gentleman. What you see is what you get. Candy, meet me soon, and then you might really have to start a fire. Don't get spiffed up to see me, because I won't. Wanna get frisky we will just take a shower, I don't count on anything, I don't expect anything.

And with everything, expect nothing and you will never be disappointed.

Fake... hmmm.. can be pretty hard to weed them out.

These days anyone who writes me with any message that could be deemed "more than friendly" is a fake in my book, since one "fake" trait is that they send you a message claiming to think you're amazing without even having read your profile. Anyone who has read my profile should know I am not looking for anything more than friendship...

But there are the obvious ones who don't even show up as having viewed your profile before you get those, "I think we could make this work" messages.

I really love the ones where they tell me allll about themselves and I know they just copied and pasted because the nature of their message completely clashes with my personality.. and I put plenty of my personality into my profile.

I tend to also look to see if they've posted on the forums. If they have, I read their posts to see if they have a habit of trolling for free erotic material written by other posters. If they haven't posted.. well a lot of people don't, but I tend to bring up the forums with anyone I actually have a friendly conversation with.

I know a couple people who love the forums.. but just don't post to them.

It doesn't matter so much for me anymore. I've found all I really need.. but common sense and a little thought and use of the features that have been added by CM tends to help with the fakes issue.

usually, if the phrase GOD FEARING is in the profile (and usually more than once).. it's a safe bet it's a fake

How to spot the fakes early on?

Weight and height are good indicators. Anything under 95lbs I tend to regard as someone just not paying attention to their 500th spam account. And there seem to be an awful lot of supermodel midgets around Florida, I swear, it's like a convention is happening or something. Ridiculously bad spelling is a tip off; though I've met a few that were awful spellers, and I tend to attract the foreigners for some reason, I get French, Canadian, Russian and Chinese a lot, and they're real girls... with really bad spelling--but they also were talkative enough for me to get confident in their non-spam status.

Here's a good way of finding fakes: They complain about fakes. No, seriously! You can tell when someone's for real or for fake if they repeat the exact same lines everyone without any personality says: They're intelligent and funny, they don't want to play games, and of course, they don't want fakes. And for God's sake, stay away from anyone who won't talk to you if you don't have a picture. They are narcissistic ninnies who are only interested in being the center of attention, like Tila Tequila and every other girl who says they're bisexual.
