im  pretty sure after eating leftover bambi carcus`s after the hunters peach cobbler would make him swoon for ya chrissy

IAMChristine -> RE: Gun Control revisted, or Scientifically disproving the power given to guns (11/17/2008 1:10:52 PM)

i didn't say anything about bambi carcusses (sp? lol) you silly goose...just peach cobbler and coffee, campfire, and good company.

Bear, hate to say this but mink and ermine are not the same. Ermine is the way to refer to a stoat aka weasel in its winter coat. Minks are minks and best in coats IMHO.

I actually don't like eating venison. But because I let people hunt they feel impelled to hand over packages of the stuff to me. I smile sweetly and pass them on to my sister who does like game. However, always ask about the hunt - if they wounded it and tracked it for three days it goes directly into the garbage. Unless it was a clean shot you won't get the adrenaline out of it no matter how long you stew it for.

You guys would go apeshit on my property!  Best friend & I have 120 acres, 1/2 in hardwood.  Have >100 head of deer on the property, rabbits coming outta my ass, and the occasional panther, cougar, bobcat, blackbear, armadillo, coyote, alligator, peccary & feral dogs ... and all the snakes & small critters that fit into a stew pot.  My challenge is going to be safely raising a handful of cows & Kikos, as well as Muscovies & Guinea Fowl ... along w/ my organic garden & orchard :-)  Already have 10 acres in electric fencing ... just need to cross-fence a few more lots so I can rotate pasture & have a whack at keeping the predators on the other side of the fence.  Have my deer stand facing where the treeline turns into grassland.  All the relatives ... and relatives of relatives, and their friends want to come down & haul home a freezer full.

And ... with all those trees ... such a great place to suspend a sub :-)

Pics, please.

I suggest redoing this experiment. Give a loaded firearm to someone with known anger management and alcohol issues along with a supply of alcohol and interaction with others of the same ilk and then see what happens.

I.....can't....stop....myself...from responding to this.  I tried!!  Lord knows I tried!  Wrestled myself to the floor & put a choke hold on myself, but I broke the hold & am back at the keyboard.

So, would you advocate that nobody be allowed to have firearms because of the actions of an aberrant few who would do damage whether they had firearms or not???

Look - its very clear indeed. The experience in the UK is very good evidence indeed that the best policy is to treat everyone like an idiot and take their guns away because idiots shouldnt have them. This is obvious following two incidents a while back when idiots killed a load of people, but all citizens being equal before the law, ergo all citizens must be idiots. Heaven forfend that the authorities might have truly fucked up with granting licences to two idiots that shouldnt have had a water pistol let alone semi-automatic weapons- no, the system was right, the people must be wrong.

The number of guns in the hands of criminals has increased, the number of weapons being discharged in public places has increased, the number of shootings has increased and the number of fatalities has increased - however these are criminals, not idiots, so weapons offences by idiots have fallen as desired and predicted.

What pisses me off about the whole "guns kill people" argument is that neither I nor anyone else I knew that had a gun in the old days ever so much as joked about shooting anyone, still less did we have "accidents" or anything like that. We all knew what guns were, what they did and the consequences.

Some years later now, the likes of me is seen as a psycho nutjob over here for mounting an argument in favour of owning a gun. "Obviously" I am unbalanced, as only someone unbalanced would want a gun. The paranoia is quite astonishing.

Meanwhile there remain the few idiots who should never be given so much as a daffodil for the knowledge they'd find a way to hurt someone with it. But, we are all equal now - that is to say all equally stupid, insane and incapable.

How've ya been, jl?

With a short unwanted holiday in a facility to keep me under observation after changing my meds for bipolar, I am actually doing quite well.

New therapist is suggesting I begin to have a social life... I replied I do, I have all kinds of friends..... ONLINE and no closer than 100 miles away.....[sm=evil.gif]

glad you've got your meds sorted out *hug*

Hey, anyone needs to get in some hunting practice, I invite you up for some chipmunk hunting. damn little bastages keep cleaning out my bird feeder!

Termyn8or -> RE: Gun Control revisted, or Scientifically disproving the power given to guns (11/17/2008 10:17:54 PM)

Well I tried a similar experiment as in the OP. For reasons I won't go into, I leaned an AK47 up against my computer, which sits on the floor. The damn thing moved, falling down and revealing itself. It did not, however, point itself at anyone nearby nor did it chamber and fire itself.

That's a good thing too, with 4400 FPS copper clad rounds it probably was pointing at one of the neighbors.

So the question now is, does my little AK need therapy ? Actually I have reoriented him and he seems to be stable now, so maybe all is well. I only ask because whether therapy is needed or not, I figure that CM would be the place to ask.

maybe he was just tired, Termy.... needed a nap

Darias -> RE: Gun Control revisted, or Scientifically disproving the power given to guns (11/18/2008 1:36:52 AM)

while i have no interest in owning a gun ( hate things that make loud noises when i use them ... cant stand using my parents old electric shower either ) i am all for giving others the right to ...

as Lady E pointed out, in the UK and yes in Ireland too .. we have a situation where the villains have guns ... lots of guns ... unregistered .. modified ... loaded ... guns and the citizens whom the villains rob , kidnap , rape ,etc .. have no guns
and the cops who are charged with finding and stopping the villains also have no guns

kinda looks bad for the Christians at the moment

down south we have a city called limerick ... known to most Irishers as stab city due to its high rate of crime .... while the bad guys have upgraded from kitchen knives and switchblades to shotguns and 9mm`s the name has stuck .... personally id rather the amount of gun related deaths in ireland to include home invaders, thieves, rapists, drugdealers and murderers rather than just innocents and and the dumb villians who dont have a gun

Hunting Britishers who come over for their stag / hen weekends isnt a bad idea either ... you could even have a bag limit ... 1 bride = 3 regular hen party attendees ... 6 attendees and your done

any US states have Hen seasons ?

jlf1961 -> RE: Gun Control revisted, or Scientifically disproving the power given to guns (11/18/2008 1:42:29 AM)

Termyn8or,
It may be that the AK was showing showing submission to its owner and master.

I gave up bird feeding when the bears started helping themselves to it. For some unknown reason an 800 lb bear on the porch makes me very nervous.

I've heard that "Gun Control" is the theory that a women who is found beaten, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose is somehow morally superior to one who is explaining to the cops why her attacker has those round, bloody holes in his chest.

Try standing him in a tight spot, we have ours between a wall and cabinet so he feels secure. I am not sure what therapy for him would cost, but I bet my insurance won't cover it and why take chances.
