I hope this kind of cooperation and working together continues. The emotional, republican hating, cheerleaders will likely derail things like this though.

As will the emotional, democrat hating cheerleaders, such is the nature of politics.

It would be good if we were able to have the brightest from both sides of the political spectrum cooperating. The same applies here in the UK

Setting aside fine words and phrases, oops sorry quoting the Protocols, for the sensitive among us, it boils down to this. McCain is still a senior senator and still has power. If he has what it takes to even make a valid bid for President he will likely remain a senator.

So we got the PE over here basically saying "Some of your ideas are good, but I think mine are better". Trying to cooperate here can't be all bad. In other days I would always want to see the President at odds with the congress. For Pete's sake you know darn well that most of what they do is wrong. A deadlock used to be a good thing, as they could do less damage. But again the only thing that remains constant is that things change. They are simply going to have to cooperate to handle this mess.

Crack open a beer, light one up, have a sandwich and a piss, and get ready for the ride. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Jesus, Orion. Nothing like poisoning the well before you start.

Thank God for those unemotional, level headed, completely and always logical Republicans.

If only we elected a Democrat for President who would reach out like this...

Mus, just let him say that shit. Too many threads turn into a dice shooting game when all we were trying to do was have a craps game.

I am an equal opportunity poisoner. Few months ago I made a comment about the kool aid drinking republicans. You see I was specific in the type of democrat I was speaking about, not all democrats. If it struck a nerve, maybe there is a reason why.

If you need me to be more specific on the type of democrat I am speaking of, just let me know and I will link to several topics here that will give an example. If you want more specifics on the kool aid drinking republicans, I can do the same there.

You see it does not bother me because party affiliation is not my thing, I am an independent asshole.

Well, a more likely scenario in this case is the Republicans, as the minority, choose to be obstructionist. As it stands, many/most of the moderates have been purged from their ranks, and Sen. McCain is not popular with them, especially his tendency to reach across the aisle and seek common ground. They can then run in 2010 claiming the Dem Congress did nothing, and the right-wing of the party already feels the answer is not leaning toward middle America but to harden their strict agenda.

If he's going to start to change that atmosphere, Obama's got his work cut out for him. And yes, he'll have to manage his own party too, as the more liberal wing (which, despite people's rhetoric, doesn't include Obama) will naturally want to run with their agenda given a Democratic majority. However, Pelosi and Reid are both stressing the need to govern from the center, so that's encouraging at least.

No matter what, the state of the economy is going to dictate what happens for the next 2-3 years, and no one's going to like it. Just reality now.

Live well,

Tim
