Padriag -> The Slave's Heart (Essay) (12/21/2005 11:09:41 AM)

Alright, took longer than I ever intended to get this put up on a web page (not to mention all the other updates for my web site languishing undone), but here it is. Below is a link to an essay, entitled The Slave's Heart which I wrote originally in 1998 and later did a minor rewrite of in 2003. What inspired the essay was largely my own personal interest. The essay was intended originally for myself, not for publication, as I worked through my own understanding of the nature of submissives and particularly of slaves. However, by 2002 a number of friends had seen it and a few copies were being passed around, which led to a lot of requests to publish it in some form somewhere. That sparked the rewrite in 2003 which mostly cleaned up spelling errors, grammar and I expanded on a few points for the sake of clarity... but the original content remained essentially the same. I had intended to publish this on a lifestyle website I was going to create, which I started but never completed and the essay again passed back into my own archives unpublished. Since then ony a few friends here and there have seen it. Then on the 12 of November I posted an excerpt of that essay in the Motivation and Surrender thread. Although not the full essay, the portion posted generated quite a positive response and I soon had a number of requests in my mail box from people wanting to see the full essay. So, finally, here it is in its entirety. The essay now resides on my own web server and a direct link to it has been provided here. The coding was a rush job and I may clean it up a bit later, but its readable and looks presentable, so enjoy.

One note, this is copyrighted material so it cannot be reposted or reproduced without my permission. As of now I have no intention of allowing it to be reproduced on other web sites. If you happen to see a copy somewhere, please let me know.

Padriag, i loved Your essay. i only have one question: what is the difference between what You wrote about slaves and a submissive's nature?

You are a lovely, readable, and truthful writer.

Thanks folks, was nice to finally get it put up on a web page. Another thing crossed off my list of things to do (an only 9,867,428 items left to go! [sm=lol.gif] ).

Candy, to answer your question I could probably write another essay on it. But at the moment I don't have the time for that so I'll try to come up with a coherent shorter answer. The main difference I've observed in the first half of the essay (the six characteristics) would be in the degree to which they wish to be controlled. A submissive desired less control and finds total control less appealing. Their desire to belong may be more limited in scope... that is... belonging in the sense of being part of a relationship vs belonging as property. Beyond this, the other four characteristics seem to apply equally well to submissives as they do slaves.

In the second half of the essay I dealt with personal identity, and this is where I see the biggest difference. Particularly in Self Beliefs. Essentially, a submissive has a different view of themselves than does a slave. Different expectations, different beliefs about their capabilities and needs, etc. These various factors combine to cause a submissive to find slavery unappealing... while a slave, having a different self image, finds slavery appealing. In short, a slave feels their needs will best be met, they will best find personal fulfillment, and their life will be best lived in slavery... this based on their beliefs about themself and their self image. A submissive simply doesn't share this belief, they feel they are best suited for more limited form of power exchange relationship, that this will best fulfill their needs.

Who we believe we are, what we believe ourselves, exerts a tremendous amount of control over our lives, our choices, who we are, who we can become.

Have not had time to read this all yet, but certainly will. I am so glad it is available here. Thanks for doing it! - Susan
