i wasn't actively on this site when i had my last job, and before that, i had only had jobs where i brought my own computer to work... good thing, because those people were heavy into God and church, and had no kink in them whatsoever. so, i've never been caught, thank goodness. i embarrass easily. however, when i was still living at home, my mom sat on my bed exactly on top of one of the battery packs for a toy that was in my bed (for some reason i figured that was the best hiding space... i guess i was wrong...) and ofcourse it turned on. she asked what it was, and went digging under the covers... i promptly replied "you don't want to know, i promise" and she left it at that... she has since found toys in other "good" hiding places... like the time she replaced my bed without telling me, as a surprise for my birthday, and found my toy between the mattress and box spring... and the other time where she switched my furinture out, to give me prettier stuff, and located toys in the top drawer of my night stand... but never collarme at work... i'm thankful. i'd hate to not have a job because i surfed the wrong sites while there.

It's never happened to me, but I've never checked anything but personal, "vanilla" email at work. I just never wanted to be in the position to explain myself.

In one of the offices used by my co-workers and I, all of our names and phone numbers are listed on a white board, and I must have left some cookies lying around on a computer somewhere, or I left a window open, or some damn thing because one day there appeared a crudely drawn stick-man who had a stick-woman on a leash who was down on all fours (followed by a .com) after my name on that white board... I knew who did it in an instant, because everyone who uses that office knows my nature except for the eff'n new guy... Oh well. What are ya going to do. [sm=discipline.gif]

Just this week someone in my corp was "let go" because of racist remarks in an email. If its not work related and "appropriate" it doesn't happen on my computer.

FR Our internet connection is wide open at my office. It's common knowledge that I spend my lunch reading opinion and political sites, but the closest I'll come to the forums is sending a link to my home email if I come across something good. I have gotten a google hit to Collarchat when researching something, but I didn't click on it.

When I am at work I work. We have two computers that are connected to the internet. The only time I ever use them is when we need to for something work related or to check a regular, normal site for some kind of information. Otherwise the closest I get to anything "bdsm" related is the email between me and Master and it's never anything raunchy...maybe a cute one liner here or there. I need my job too much to ruin it by not keeping my private life private.

i make it a point to keep my computer at work completely and totally professional. Everyone from the National Exec on down can sit down at my computer and do what they want without me fearing of what will come up (no pun intended..lol). i spend the better part of the day on the internet and have, on occasion, linked onto a site that's not 99.9% pure, but if they look into it they'll see how it happened and how quickly i backed my way out..lol. i don't even use my work email for anything personal, although i've had to use my 'nilla email for work when their system was down. It's just too risky and i've seen what can happen if you're not careful. i need the job i have, and even some days actually like the job i have, so i'm careful, to the point of obsession. (My boss, whose computer i have complete access to, can't way the same..lol). Regards jimini

I used to check CM and message boards at work but then I decided it was too big of a risk. Recently they announced they were cracking down on internet use and have a new program that can track where everyone has been on the net. I like my job and I need my job so there is no checking CM or anything else for that matter at work any more.

Many antivirus programs will treat keylogging agents as malware by default. However, nobody needs to install a keylogging agent to do a search of your hard drive. If it's a company machine on company property, don't even expect to be told. The simplest sort of search is an inspection of web browser history files. Periodic deletion of these isn't likely to help much, since "latent data", i.e., files which have been "deleted", can often still be retrieved by forensics suites like EnCase and FTK. Hell, you can try this on your own PC with apps like "Recover My Files" as a proof-of-concept. I think you will be awed by the things you thought were "deleted" from your hard drive(s), sometimes years ago, which are still partially or completely recoverable. Non-Windows operating systems are no defense. File systems without redundancy and "fail-safe" data retention characteristics can be fatally corrupted when the lights flicker. Ask me how I know. This is one of the most important considerations for designers of computer file systems, and what's on your desk is the result of 30 years of thinking about this problem. Overwriting data with ASCII zeroes or random data will effectively destroy it if it's done thoroughly. Three complete passes with random data is enough to satisfy the data destruction standards of even the DoD or the RCMP. I'm not guessing - I've read the relevant standards documents. But Windows is so redundant and stores information in so many places that this is next to impossible to accomplish by someone not expert. It also takes time. Assume a maximum throughput of 25-65 Mbytes/second for a single pass of any overwritting procedure. The limiting factor is disk I/O speed and/or the speed of the connection: USB 2 maxes out at 25 Mbytes/second in practice no matter how fast the disk at the end of it is. None of this helps in the slightest if the request from your PC to the (suspicious) web server is captured by a web proxy server, stored, and reviewed at a later time by a security techie. And any smart IT department is going to install web proxies for other reasons. The most common "other reason" is to serve as a first line of defense against malware, which the proxy can be set up to capture or block. The only way to be really safe is to simply stay the hell away from sites which are out of policy at your workplace.

Damn I can't even log in to yahoo emails at work let alone a site like CM. Our internet usage policy is very strict and most websites are initially blocked and I have to email IT to ask them to unblock them and let them know why. Even if I could log in here without getting sprung at work I wouldn't do it.... this way I get something to look forward to when I get home!!!

One woman her got fired for sending crap to the wrong people. I tried to warn here but she wouild not listen. The IT department can monitor the computers here. At one time almost everyone here was cut off from the internet. I was left alone because I have to look for different programs and stuff on the internet. My computer is the only one in the company that has never had a virus on it. They even had them in the IT department. I have a program I put on here that can lock out the IT department. Im one of the few who even have a sound card. One of the customers made it a requirement for me. He wanted me to get a cam also but I told hin no. I multitask several jobs at once and I am good at what I do so they perty much leve me alone.

First of all, using the computer at work for personal use is really not the smartest of ideas, but that doesnt stop people. That said, having worked in security, both in the field and dealing with network security, IF collarme was the worst of the sites you visited, then I would consider you the least of my worries. I have had to deal with individuals who were hitting sites that were much worse, either politically, ethically, or morally (I got promoted for doing my job and discovering my supervisor was downloading child porn at work.) Personally, I have noticed that the higher up in the chain of management you go, the more free time you end up with. I have known people that go into work, who only actually 'work' two hours a day, and that is basically to make the hard decisions (you know the ones that the underlings do not want to take the responsibility if they prove to be wrong...) Then spend the rest of the day drinking coffee, making paper airplanes, or counting the holes in the acoustical ceiling panels. So, what do you expect?

I view this as integral to business and employee ethics. In the event an employee is prepared to use business assets for his/her personal gain, then I'd be concerned that said person is predisposed to inflated expenses claims and other fraudulent activities, too. At my place, all employees sign a statement of conduct with regard to internet use; those are the rules. In the event they do not meet the employees aspirations, then work somewhere else; in the event an employee is not prepared to live by the statement to which he/she has signed, then disciplinary procedures will follow.

Management are in a position of responsibility; this doesn't mean we're better than anyone else, but it does mean we have certain responsibilities that employ our time. I regularly use the computer at work to check email, CM, etc. Granted, I work hotel reception, in the evenings, so I have a LOT of free time on my hands. However, I certainly do not use assets for personal gain (unless you count keeping boredom at bay as personal gain) or other fraudulent activities. I admit that my circumstance is not the norm, however.
