I didn't realise that they prosecuted growers while allowing thwe sale in coffee shops...that's pretty dumb if you ask me.

I get nothing from it, but I am aware that intoxication without violence can be had, the 2000 World cup proved that, either it was that which could be had at 'coffee shops' or the efficiency of the dutch world cup regime, either way, it proved the benefit that could be had from the stuff sold at 'coffee shops' other than coffee.

Is this due to the economic skinturn?
Within the Amsterdam red light district, the coffee shops are more frequent than pubs and there are no schools there that I saw.
In real terms this is likely to see other cities than Amsterdam heavily reduce their numbers of coffee shops and Amsterdam become even more of a haven. The locals are used to it and more tolerant.

I preferred the Grasshopper and Valentino, but like everyone else had pictures taken outside The Bulldog.
It's a really happy and laidback city, I hope it doesn't change too much.

I liked the Bulldog, too.  And a place called THe Doors (as in the band)

You're more likely to be prosecuted for riding your bike on the pavement than growing weed. Years ago my upstairs neighbour used to grow weed in the attic and dry bushels on the stairwell. I remember the police being at the apartment on more than one occasion for reasons nothing to do with weed and just completely ignored it or help themselves to a sample for relaxing after work I assume.

I blame the credit crunch or the downturn.
