Well let's see. Hollywood studios are not suffering, the PC and video game industry seems OK. The RIAA seems to think people have money worth suing for, and fine dining places are just as fine.

Toys-r-us hasn't banged a tin cup that I know of. Defense contractors, who are basically a toys-r-us for big kids don't seem to be hurting for money. Anheuser-Busch and Smirnoff seem to be ok. NASCAR hasn't said anything about any trouble. The NFL, ABA and other sports organizations don't have a hand out.

What does that say about us ?

Bars and alcohol consumption are aways lucrative businesses in a poor economy, I imagine toys and movies are also a great escape from reality when times are tough. People as a whole are fairly adaptable, they bounce back as well as they can and modify their lifestyles to the current situation. I suspect overall, spending will decrease but poor economies tend to produce wiser shoppers, not necessarily, no shoppers.

I am thinking we are in already, if not headed for a period of "stagflation".
Stagflation in a nutshell means, inflation and slow economic growth occur
at the same time, I don't see how we can avoid it for a while.

A greater worry right now is deflation--lower prices, but also lower wages, and since wages fall more slowly than prices, higher unemployment.

And definitely not a stimulus to the economy.

Well I just bought gas and came from the grocery store, buying gas is much cheaper
than buying food.
When the price of food starts going down, I might believe it.
Can we have deflation and stagflation at the same time?

alot of talk right now that really is nonsense.

you best plant a very large garden and soon.

the rapture is 6-12 months. or in the words of lindsey williams "all hell will break loose" see peter shift -

These are different problems.

The economy is measured overall. With, for example, housing down, that keeps official price statistics down. At the same time you (and I) can be spending much more on food and other items, making our own situation inflationary (assuming in this case our housing costs are flat).

Deflation and stagflation can't, by definition, occur at the same time. However, the economy overall could of course be in a different state than your personal situation.

lindsey williams claims the goal is

1. crush saudi arabia
2. destroy the middle class of the US.

3. a new world order does not mean the US will be the ruler. I think we would be 5th or 6th if you go by the illuminatti plan.

be that as it may, we had 11 bail outs in 2008, and 2.3 trillion in military is "missing"... so no matter how you slice it- the forces that did this are not friendly.

Scoot, we (the family) were thinking of buying a bar years ago. It was a pretty sweet deal but it's a good thing we didn't because we drink. But the consensus was of course, people drink when they are happy, people drink when they are sad, they drink when they lose a job or quit, they drink when they get another one and they drink in between. They drink when they get married and they drink when they get divorced. And I am talking about people who don't normally drink !

I have a neighbor. He is OK but his house needs work. He sold me a car on the cheap and is pretty cool with me. I hooked him up with a boarder which worked out for a while until he lost his job. At that point the house needs gutter work and due to that needed some tuck pointing as it has stone facia. The boarder offered to help, and so did I. Fix the gutters, go find a grout bag, mortar is cheap. But no, the owner of the house is more content to sit there and play video games. By the time this winter is over that house is going to need alot more than tuck pointing, we are talking major fill ins as well as foundation work most likely. The house also needs a few roof shingles but I guess that does not matter because it is not leaking into the house now.I offerred twice and the second time he asked why it would concern me.

Is that the mentality now ? I can't fathom it. If you have a house it can't be in disrepair. This place may need a facelift but all major functions are doing just fine. Roof, foundatio and pretty much everything in between. The only things not working are my garbage disposal and one light dimmer needs to be replaced. The light dimmer went out yesterday and it will be replaced today or tomorrow. The garbage disposal I don't really care, I used it so rarely I regret even having it. One thing I know is that I don't need what I don't need. If anything essential breaks it is a priority. I could use a paint job and this and that, but all essentials MUST be kept up.

That's the way I roll.

People have blackberries and cellphones with cameras and all this, dogs with chips in them tied to a GPS and have no money for the bills.

I know what that tells me.

Williams warned of $50 oil in July of 2008.

There is a religious component undercurrent- no doubt.

To be sure- my posts are negative. My frustration is not so much with the larger world or with anyone on this board. My frustration is with myself, in have no real plan to get thru the bad times.

Americans are very soft people.   including me.   we dont know what hardship is, and many have no clue on what a real days worth of work is.   the lines for gas in the 70s is an example of what is coming. It could be fuel- but it could be food or what have you.

do you recall the alarmed look the dudes on wall street had when this 1st broke?   the eyes were quite --fear-

but consider that nothing you touch or consume took 5 days to process. an exampe a crop of apples or corn. it takes at least a growing season for it to run the pipeline.   the same pipeline where no capital is moving......

so what this means is the bad baddddddddddd walls street world will trickle and effect ecerything we now touch.

so-    weather lindsey williams, peter shift, ron paul, lyndon larouche- what ever- the point is that they think outside the paradyme.   the same paradyme that is shifting by the actions before us.

so dont kill the messenger.

plan for any outcome.... which is what I wish to do- but am doub-founded as to the details.

No.

Deflation is when prices trend down. Stagflation has prices trending up. The two scenarios are thus mutually exclusive.
