Question:  Do I make any effort for her to try to get her back?  Do I give that cheater another chance?  Do I set myself up again?  What would you do in this situation?

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.  However, people can change as they say.  But.. they don't change core behaviors that demonstrated their inner character without a significant emotional event to effect that change.  So... do you think she has changed?  If you say yes... How do you know... words are cheap.  I appears that you have never met... therefore... I am not so sure if what you feel is really about her or the idea that you have of her.  I suggest that you take practical look at the person she actually is.... a cheater for one...   I would move on... your not tied to her.. better to do it now.  There is actually honest people out there that is much more deserving of your committment than she is.

I don't get what's to take back???    Your talking to some wacked out, internet, drama loving bimbo who you haven't even met yet.  To my mind it's "words on a screen until it's real. <read meet>.    BadOne
Gotta agree with the common sense having Badone in this case since the OP seems to have lost his marbles in his desperation for love.    M

perhaps its a case of forgive but sertainly not forgotten? I belive that a mistake is only a mistake if nothing is learned from it....

It is a difficult situation you find yourself in, but at the end of the day its a decision thats yrs and yrs alone. I hope you find a conclusion in whatever form from this and I hope lessons have been learned.
