Currently showing on the wonderful BBC1 in the UK is the remake of the late seventies series of ''Survivors'' ;

Really, I am not sure I want to be watching this, as this is all too possible.

Anyone have any views ?

Sometimes I am in the mood for this type of movie or series and at other times not.  Have you watched The Children of Men?

I made the mistake of trying to watch that show once.
What a bunch of fucking whining wimps!
Throw them in shark infested waters with sausages tied on them and see if they survive then.
They won't survive that!

I loved it! Its on the iplayer now if anyone missed it. I didnt know it was a remake, but it was great having it come on having just read a book where all the adults are struck down by a mystery illness and only the children survive. Love that kind of thing....

I have seen children of men but I much prefered the book. The idea that with no children to follow on the whole country being turned into areas for leisure pursuits for adults with nothing to look forward to.... county sized golf courses etc.

And of course anything end of the worldy has to be better than I am legend.

You know i thought children of men was an appaling film whereas i thought I am Legand was so sublime, the social commentary was wonderful, but then maybe I was over analysing

Really?! Children of Men was brilliantly made, had a fantastic story structure, and was incredibly realistic considering it's fairly tight budget ($76 mil). I Am Legend was tacky and overdone. The book was great, and the first two adaptations (Omega Man and Last Man on Earth) were done much better despite being made decades before and on significantly smaller budgets. No one needs $150 000 000 of Will Smith. And that was before the insane advertising costs. It was short, but felt so incredibly long, the effects were terrible, the only redeeming quality it had was the dog, and they killed it. Also the ending was just brutal.

To each their own, and I'm glad some people enjoyed it, but I ended up yelling in the car the entire way home after seeing it haha

hmm well you see i dont really watch films for the effects or whatever. I guess the fact aht i really dont like clive owen didnt help, but also i just didnt see the point, there was no real story line and even the genius that is caine didnt redeem it. I do like will smith so again that helped but it just spoke to me, i didnt think it was badly made but i did think the message was really quite profound, children of men COULD have had that too but it seemed to miss that part of it in favour of 'tension' i think it missed a huge section of the storytelling process out, something I see in so many modern films.
