Hehe - and i agree - the law should have the appearance of dignity.  But of course it doesn't . All you need to do is watch one or two lawyer ads on tv to know that. *sigh*  those guys should be made to listen to bagpipe music at loud volumes in a small room.

I really liked Atticus Finch - now there was a lawyer with dignity and principles.  especially when he looked like Gregory Peck.[:)]

Dignity and principles?  We'll have none of that around here!

Here's a worse punishment.

Barney singing Barry Manilow songs.

Things like this do a lot more harm than good to the dignity of the law.

Frankly, being forced to listen to music I didn't like for an hour would be barely an annoyance, and certainly not as effective in preventing a repeat offense as a fine or jail time. It just turns the criminal justice system into a farce. Maybe he should try teaching Kindergarten for a while instead of sitting on the bench.

I agree that there is that risk, but I prefer allowing for creative responses rather than the knee-jerk reactivity of 'you break law - you pay price' ...
I think that kind of rigidity can lead just as surely (if not moreso) to the law appearing stupid and heartless.
I have a lot less patience with (and a lot more resentment towards) rigidity than I do with foolishness.
Consistency is good to some degree, of course, but I think systems also have to be responsive, thinking and alive.
For a repeat offense, sure, go to the fines and stuff.
