In WIITWD..There is

Freedom in slavery

Freedom in bondage

Freedom in service

Agree? If so why? If not why?

DVsFox -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 6:11:36 AM)

I don't agree because I've always disliked the phrases.  I find them a touch cliche, honestly.

Just my two cents, though...I can absolutely see why people love them.

chamberqueen -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 6:31:49 AM)

I find freedom within my slavery but mainly because my Master has built it in.  For instance, for my task of cleaning his home I am told to do anything I want to make it more comfortable.  There are times during a session when he simply says, "please me".  He enjoys my intelligence and creativity and gives me times to shine.

I can see the idea of someone feeling free even when being micromanaged simply because they have chosen to follow someone's orders instead of doing all of the thinking for themselves.  There is protection for most slaves.

I think it is very individualized.  For some the service is only part of a game.  For others it is a drive within them.  Being bound can give a freedom from having to do anything else.  Freedom, after all, is a mindset.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 6:31:51 AM)

There is freedom in being true to yourself- sometimes that happens to mean being in bondage and enslaved.

marie2 -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 6:43:14 AM)

I've never really subscribed to or understood those types of expressions.  I feel the same way as Fox; it feels very cliche.   It's like typical online bdsm over-played propaganda like "I'm owned heart mind body and soul",  "when I kneel before him, I am lifted up", "when I'm chained, I am free"....blah blah blah.

I agree with what Albatross said, if anything, maybe some people feel a sense of freedom because they are expressing their inner desires that they may have previously supressed.  But beyond that, I really can't fathom any deeper meaning to it.

Chgolostnlooking -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 10:09:04 AM)

For me, there is happiness in submission.  I don't really feel "Freedom" - just the ability to satisfy something I feel.  I don't think I would use those expressions for myself.

opensoul -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 10:19:50 AM)

I understand to some it sounds cliche, but to me the freedom is more of letting the side of myself come to the top and live finally. Not hiding or afraid to answer my inner call . In today's world a female must be strong, yet some men feel threatened so they try to be abusive to show they are strong.
I am strong ,yet I want to be able to show myself fully to someone I trust and with that comes the freedom, the peace and with my Master , love and  self assurance and love of myself for the first time.

SternDaddy1959 -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 10:27:52 AM)

Like Joan Biaz says, "Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose."

When I was in my 20's and had nothing I had complete freedom to come and go where and when I chose. Now, even a weekend away takes a lot of planning.
I do understand and agree that slavery does represent freedom.
When you have to do something whether you like it or not, the fact you have to do it takes away the edge.
Come on, who would work if they did nto have to? Most people do not have the freedom to not work.
That is also why death is the ultimate freedom.

WestBaySlave -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 10:29:13 AM)

  My personal feelings are along the lines of what LuckyAlbatross mentioned. It's not freedom per se so much as being free to be in the mental space I'm happiest in.

  I suppose if I analyze my own feelings about D/s there are certain freedoms I feel:

  Freedom to be an open book to my partner...
  Freedom to express and recieve affection in the way most natural to me...
  Freedom to be passive and emotionally dependent...
  Freedom from decisions, worry, certain responsibilities...

it's all about perspective for this slave.

one person's tired cliche' is another's cherished mantra.

the freedom of expressing one's submissive nature without being judged as being in need of therapy, intervention or medication because it is "different" than the dominant behavior that conventional/vanilla society holds up as the only "healthy" way to be, is rather wonderful and something this slave, personally, celebrates.

servantheart -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 11:40:59 AM)

Agree.

I was bound by what modern society taught me regarding what women "should" be, bound by worry because I wasn't "normal", bound by shame because I belive there is a natural order in a woman's relationship with her Man, bound by sadness because I was unable to find Men who shared these beliefs.

I am free to be myself.  I am free to obey, free to serve, free to please, free to give myself utterly to my Master, free to honor Him, free to revel in His strength, free to joyfully celebrate femininity and Masculinity, free to delight in His mere presence, free to find contentment at His feet, free to love, naturally.

Actually a bunch of performers have recorded it.  Kris Kristofferson wrote it though.

This approximates my thoughts most closely. That's where I find the freedom lies, in being the person that I really am.

One thing that I've found interesting when I submit is how clear my mind is. I'm the type of person who's mind runs a million miles a minute 24/7. I can't shut it off. When I'm bound and/or serving in some capacity, it's amazing how much that changes, how everything just slows down and for that moment my mind is at peace. That's real freedom, for me at least.

pinkwind -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 5:13:15 PM)

Rather than freedom i feel i have space, range, room to move in any direction, the time to explore both my relationship with Andy and others as well as exploring myself.

Sometimes being within our dynamic is like being in a place with no horizon, where i never forget that i am not alone, and can draw in the distance until i feel surrounded, cosseted, encompassed by the care and loving support of another warm human being.

MAybe you could call that freedom, i call it something else.

This is very true for me, too.

Well said, LA.

Araven -> RE: Freedom (11/26/2008 7:49:02 PM)

There is a certain type of freedom when submitting. You give up control, and in essence when you give up control you give up worries, responsibility, and stresses often times.

When I give in, when I submit, I feel that freedom as my Mistress takes control.

'WIITWD' means 'what is it that we do', it does not nessarily mean all of these freedom terms listed. pretty much it means we do things that could offend main stream and why? Why are the things i do behind closed door or in public if i am going for a walk on my leash offensive to you? What right does one have to judge another for the life as an adult you wish to live?

Freedom is slavery, freedom in bondage, freedom in service. Lets flip this.. freedom of owning a slave, freedom of bonding someone, and freedom of having someone in your service... does it still hold true?

To me freedom is my choice to live the way i choice. i am a strong, intellegent woman. One who does not need to stay on my knees, who can make my way to the door, who can tell any man or woman that gets too frisky with me when i dont want it to f off.

However, i choose that my life is this one i feel a sense of happiness and an extreem sexual attraction when i kiss my Masters feet or when i cannot sit on the couch, or when i am ordered to do something and am able to abblidge and do it so well. These things light a fire with in me, a flame that only simmers when i go out with my vanilla friends, but a look is all i need to be back at my Masters side, even if i was in the mids of a lovely conversation my place is never forgotten. So i would say i disagree with the above statement.

Thank you for that, I agree completely.
