I used to shave, and I never felt I got a good enough finish.  If I got a close enough shave I could guarantee ingrown hairs.  So I started to use an epilator.  It hurt like hell the first couple of times, but now I barely feel it.  Regrowth is very much like with waxing - it's finer and it's very soft.  Buy a good epilator designed for short hairs and you can use it every couple of days.

Afterwards I use a spray designed especially for bikini line shaving to prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs.  It's called Nads Ingrow Solution (buy it in larger branches of Boots in the UK) and it's fab!  And I always exfoliate using a mitt every day.  Now the only bumps I have to deal with are ones left over from my last shave a month ago.

Has anyone had any experience with any of those electric razors made specifically for the genitals (i.e. the Hair ERazor, Seiko Cleancut, or Body Bare)?

Zechriel -> RE: Hair Removal (12/1/2008 4:27:38 AM)

Good morning!
Wow , just reading this I am learning so much! But I can tell of my experiences-ick. Use Nair waxing strips on my eyebrows-really works well and gets a great line but i often have red burning bumps afterwards. I think it burns my skin. I like being natural on my pits but Daddy likes everything smooth so i shave but waxed a few times and like the smooth feeling. Also, being of dark skin, the stubble did leave such a dark shadow when it did start to grow in. I hate that shadow. sometiems ended up plucking the pit hairs as well...when I was feeling very bored and sad. Great way to punish yourself! ::smiles::

Shave my legs with razor and shaving gel, not soap. Triple blade-the Venus works great. Tried Nads but was messy and didn't take the hair off. Nads worked on the pits though pretty well. As for bikini area-ick, i usually shave but get bumps and ingrowns on the bikini area. When it does grow back, I often feel like I have a porcupine caught between my legs. Tried Nads there but were messy and didn't take alot off. I will go get waxed at the salon this winter sometime when I get my nerve up. Seems to be the way to go -smoother, les messy, less time involved. Worth the cost is you get someone who is good, I think. I have a pretty low pain threshold but since having my kids, I can handle alot. I think the embarrassment is what is holding me back really.

In the meantime, gonna switch to cortisone cream instead of baby oil for shaving afterwards...try that instead. And I use those Noxema bikini razors-use them twice and throw away. Comes 3 in a pack for $2 and they are tiny. Take care and good luck!

Love,
Zechriel  [sm=runaway.gif]

I've been pretty happy with the Seiko Cleancut (new version). It's very comfortable, gets about as close as a razor, and there's no fear of cutting yourself in a sensitive, hard-to-shave spot.

Don't those epilator things do it one hair at a time and electrocute the hair follicle? Seems like a lot of time and effort doing your whole crotch/armpit/leg that way.

veryniel -> RE: Hair Removal (12/1/2008 11:33:00 AM)

Thanks hardbodysub. Another question about the Seiko (or any similar personal shaver): has anyone who uses it had any problem with the whole powder thing (as I believe the ones I've heard of are all dry shavers)? I've heard some say that talcum powder damages the blades and/or that use of powder in that area often causes yeast infections? Ick. I realise it works differently for different people but I was wondering how many are actually affected by that problem.

No, they just pull the hair out - similar to plucking.  I have considered getting one of those personal electrolysis units to actually kill the hairs.  It would take a lot of time, but for certain areas - back, back of the arms, ears, etc...worth it I would think.

I shave all over with exception of a patch in the crotch and armpits.  I use the Venus razor and am finding that it is largely getting your skin and hair used to the shaving process.  I had terrible bumps at first and they have largely reduced.  I also use Veet depilatory on my butt and lower back as it is just too hard to get a razor back there with any consistency.

Well, but then there are times after he's performed his 'bath boy' services well, that he gets rewarded by being bent over and having the most personal of parts shaved for him. (yes, front AND back)

Blushing Otters are just the cutest creatures!

Been shaving my pubic area for most of my life, but i just hated the razor burn.  my skin is very sensitive, and for 2 days afterwards, i was uncomfortable.  This last time i got my nerve up, at my age yet, and went to get waxed.  Wow, how nice was that.  And the "embarrassment" factor went waaay down when i met the woman who was the waxer....she was an older woman who made me feel very relaxed about the whole process.

There was some pain involved, but not a whole lot, and i'm looking forward to having it done on a regular basis.  i feel so much cleaner than when i shaved, for whatever reason.  And i don't have to even think about shaving again.

Underarams and legs, i use a razor and gel, but it's got to have at least 3 blades and 4 is better.

glanstat -> RE: Hair Removal (12/4/2008 8:41:50 AM)

Going in to the electrolysis lady to clear the gentials in a few weeks.  Really hardly can not see any, the ones I can feel are very fine.  Will take less than an hour to get rid of the fine ones.  Almost done now, have not shaved in 4-5 years.

Probably will schedule a lazer session next month.  Another zap or two on armpits, area on thighs around genitals and butt crack.  Not concerned if we get total elimination there, just change the darker hairs to fine small ones.

I bought one of those and am disappointed with it, especially considering the amount of money it cost!
It leaves stubble much like an electric razor, never had any yeast infection issues with it and I am super prone to those.

I will also emphatically recommend AGAINST the evilness that is the Epi hair removal torture devices. I have a little line of scars on my leg from my one and only attempt.

Evil, Epi, evil. Awful. [&:]

For legs I am happy with Nair type products but dear god never use on pink bits. Chemical burns on pink bits are just nasty. I've decided to accept pubic hair, a trim and bikini shave is all I will do.

The dream of a smooth cooter is just that, a dream. Alas.

Otter,

I am trying the Veet rapid removal cream right now and alexis loves it.  Hair gone in 6 minutes.  Now I don't have to shave her butt...LOL!

For the back...bent wire coat hanger, a couple of rubber bands, a shower brush, and a razor.

Soap (or lather) the shower brush, lather up the back, use the razor (attached to the hanger with the rubber bands, and shave away.

Tasha
