I decided it was easiest to wash my dog in the shower.  So now I shower with my dog, sleep with my dog, and go out with my dog.  A person might wonder if my dog is a replacement for a lover/Dom/boyfriend/spouse.  So let's compare:

Dog: is delighted by whatever food i make for him
LDBS: not so much

LDBS: loves it when i rub him all over in the shower
Dog: not so much

Dog: loves it when i rub him all over, and likes to lick me
LDBS: ditto

LDBS: hogs the bed, and hogs the covers
Dog: has his own little part of the bed and doesn't like covers

Dog: is ecstatic when i come home and jumps on me
LDBS: doesn't jump me when i walk in the door - usually!

LDBS: feels like going out occasionally, and i have to dress up
Dog: often wants to go out, and doesn't care what i wear

Dog: likes to chew on my clothes
LDBS: doesn't thank goodness

So after all that comparison, what have you concluded?

LOL  It is similar with my kitten.  He doesn't care if I have a bad hair day, loves me in sweats as much as in finery, puts his head against my mouth so that I will give him kisses, sucks at my neck, is always happy to see me walk in the door, plays with my toes when I take a bubble bath, and loves to share meals with me.  I am the center of his world.

I will never be able to look at cleaning the litter box in quite the same way.

A dog that doesn't take the entire bed and all the blankets? How, odd.

OP, don't feel bad....I bought an extended cab pickup TWICE for my dog just so he could have his own window and someplace to lay down.  And he actually knew what the Golden Arches meant!

And Stella......*snort*...love the way your mind works!!!!
