I myself am rather fed up with the American (and Western) aristocracy and it's ever growing degree of incompetence. Our corporations in the west are no longer managed and operated by those men that built them and understood the internal functions of their particular industry. CEO's are now more concerned with pie charts, bar graphs and then getting off to their 2:15 tee time; many have inherited their positions via an increasingly more dysfunctional system. Turning the wrench, welding the bead, quartering the ham or in essence, simply understanding the real workings of the companies they pretend to manage is no longer the requirement.

Understand this isn't a slam against education, I firmly believe if you want to be at the top you need to cover all these bases, education and practical experience.
It is a delusional contention to consider that simply acquiring an MBA qualifies someone as corporate material. To be a real leader you have to be, know and do; and that is in all aspects of the job.

So in the end I would say competence and vision are what seem to be lacking. Instead of American industry trying to find innovation and advancement for capturing comsumer passion they have regressed to simply trying to manipulate our desires through media messaging.

Social arrogence and excessive greed along with an unmatched degree of self importance has driven nearly every major corporation into oblivion. But we are no less to blame as common citizens. We elect the self righteous politicians that allow monopolies to acquire more and more of the competition that keeps industry motivated and honest.

We are held hostage by a system that we as citizens allow to run amuck. Capitalism isn't a free-free market, everything needs rules to establish equal footing for competition. Maybe our referees of business need a better instant replay system. Perhaps we need to evaluate referee job performance.

So you work at a job for 40 years. Part of your contract is a retirement plan. Then they take it away.

Howdy Tim,

I agree that they are getting screwed with their retirements if the B3 go under. But I think that beef is with the unions that spawned the deals that had no security beyond corporate survival. I agree it's a fucked deal, but the fact is life isn't always fair and they are entitled to social security, just like I am.

Life's a crap shoot and even if no one has thrown craps yet, the dice appear to have file marks on them.

Hey Bull,

I do place a portion of the blame onto the eduction system.

wall street acts as tho leaders who do not trigger lawsuits and not dog eat dogging hard enough for the cause.

the film "harvard yard" explores the status of univeristies here and it is worrysome.

just because a student is told the theory is xyz doesnt make it so. there is a hold on the ed system. if you want advancement you must think THEIR box and not outside of it.

this is especially worrisome today. no doubt the paradyme is shifting ready or not. the grads have all learned the old paradyme.. we are fucked. the new century will belong to China. of course we will have to bomb them...but truth be told... they (or their agents) make the components we would need to seriously obliterate them.

Im fine on vehicles. I simply glanced as I walked to the mail box. I bought a clunker pickup truck when I bought the house a year ago. I intend to junk it when I am finished with it. I had to hire a uhaul to move to the next town, and I haul supplies to fix up this shack.

so it was $300 for the truck, i had the throw tires on it.. so I have about $525 into it. make that $600, i forgot about the battery. :-) anyhow that is a one time payment. not every month. :-) yay, BTW, it is a chevy s-10 :-) that truck is faily solid... 210k miles on it.

Perhaps you misunderstood my questions. I am asking why did these people put all their eggs into one basket and ASS -U- ME.......those contracts would be honoured and do nothing else to protect themselves? Haven't we all learned about diversification? Saving for a rainy day, etc. Or, do we just run hither and thither, spending every penny of our paychecks and once again ASS U ME, that someone, some mythical entity will take care of us when our paychecks run out?

Apparently that is the new American way. To live totally in the moment and then run around wringing our hangs, crying "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!!" when things don't go the way we hoped. Sorry, but again......someone else's piss poor planning does not make an emergency on my part. I am quite certain that I make less than 99% of the auto workers and I have managed to tuck away a tidy sum for my retirement. I don't think my tax money needs to go to a bunch of spendthrifts that didn' bother to think ahead and plan for some hail storms.
