No, it is not to search for porn.  I am much to proper to do that.  *cough*

It is to find out how to spell words.  After I spell a word 7 or 8 different ways and it still has that wiggly red line under it, I copy my misspelled word to Google and search - the first line is "Did you mean: [word you will never spell right, you uneducated git]" and of Course it is what I meant, and I get to sound like an educated git.

I loves it.

In 98 I used to have "search music index" which I created by starting a search in my music directory only and saving the FND file. Clicking on it would put you right in the search window with the directory already selected and with one word it searched and returned the results almost immediately. I can't seem to get XP to do that.

Therefore when I have a keyword for a song to play but forgot the artist, I just go to Google and now it works quite well. The only nicer thing about the old way was I could just use one word. It was fast enough I could just try another word next. Friggin XP searches the whole harddrive and on this thing it takes time.

So I just Google it.

I think Google's Desktop Search (GDS) works a whole lot faster than XP's search. It's software from Google that you install on your machine so if you're not into that, then GDS wouldn't be an option.

I don't know how GDS does its work for sure but I think it builds an index file using processor cycles that you're not using with your apps. Once the index is built, the Google search engine
within GDS returns results very quickly. I think it also retrieves results from the Web as well as results from Internet Explorer's browser cache.
