It's software from Google that you install on your machine so if you're not into that, then GDS wouldn't be an option. I don't know how GDS does its work for sure but I think it builds an index file using processor cycles that you're not using with your apps. Once the index is built, the Google search engine within GDS returns results very quickly. I think it also retrieves results from the Web as well as results from Internet Explorer's browser cache.
