Have you talked to a pharmacist about your medications and their possible interactions together? Usually most reputable pharmacies talk to you or give you a printout with your drugs and what the interactions might be.  Call your pharmacist they would be the best one to ask these important questions to, that is what they are there for.

Why the hell are you even considering taking meds without knowing what they have been prescribed for and how they will interact with other things you take?

elegantalexis -> RE: Carafate and Bentyl? (12/1/2008 11:18:34 AM)

Carafate is for the treatment of GERD and duodenal ulcers (as well as peptic and stress ulcers, possibly hiatal hernia).  Here is a link on Wiki with more details.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sucralfate

I should be taking it myself, but I deal with my own problems by eliminating fats (not too much), MSG and spicy foods from my diet.

Of course, every body is different, so if a med works for you, go with it!

I like Bentyl when my IBS flares up so bad (I cannot resist fried zukes or Chinese food with MSG).

Considering the fact you have in the past been kick off a medical help forum  and are using a BDSM forum for  constant  medical advice  have you considered that possibly you might have Hypochondriasis (HC), which involves preoccupation with the fear of having a serious illness despite appropriate medical examination, is often encountered in medical settings. The most conspicuous feature of this disorder is seeking excessive reassurance from physicians, medical references, or self-inspection;

The op has an extensive history of bulimia. Seeking advice on a BDSM forum with such a history is simply seeking attention, in my opinion.

Well, if you were having all this stuff happening, wouldn't you be worried something serious is wrong? If it hurts to pee but the cultures all come back fine...you see blood in your urine and the dipstick shows protein...and you're having bloody diarrhea...diarrhea 5-6 times a day...food going straight through you undigested...nose bleeds daily when you never had them as a kid or anything...headaches, body aches and constant stomach pain...would it be responsible to just ignore it all and not go to the doctor? What if something is wrong? Why would they send me to specialists if nothing was wrong? The tests show that something is going on...

i would be extremly concerned. But i would not try to find the answers here.

And you have to realize, my dear, that you have an extensive history of bulimia. The very actions you take when bulimic affect you from your teeth to your tush...the entire GI tract, and those effects do not suddenly vanish when you stop purging.

You have been sent to a specialist. HE is the one you need to be discussing this with.

A lot of the symptoms started after I was recovering...not while I was purging 5+ times a day...I strangely felt pretty damn good when I was purging all the time.

I am seeing my GI doctor tomorrow...but doctors don't always know first hand everything about the medications they prescribe. Which is why I asked here to see if anyone had taken them and what their reactions were...etc...

Actually, if the doc i saw couldn't give me the info i requested about the meds he/she wanted me to take, i'd personally find one that could. Under no circumstance would i go into a BDSM forum and expect total strangers to be able to give me the information that my own doctor could not. Most docs actually carry around lil PDA's with all the info they need if they don't happen to already have the info on what they're prescribing. Then again, i'd be very concerned if they were just pulling names of drugs out of their ass to prescribe for me.
You've already admitted in a previous post that you take whatever they prescribe without asking the questions you're asking here. When the nurse came in with the scripts, you should have made it known you needed to talk to the doctor and have your questions answered before you left. That is totally on your shoulders.
i'm sorry, but i've read a few of your posts and they do really scream "I need attention!!!" Hypocondriasis is really a medical condition. "The preoccupation with HC may be symptom based, with a focus on bodily functions (eg, heartbeat, sweating, peristalsis), minor physical abnormalities (eg, a small sore or an occasional cough), or vague and ambiguous physical sensations (eg, “tired heart,” “aching veins”)."
It was also pointed out that your history of bulemia is going to cause many problems - maybe even especially since you say you've stopped purging. Imagine your body having to somehow become used to a more normal state after it became used to an abnormal state of binging and purging. Just my opinion, of course.

Call your local pharmacy, they should be able to give you all kinds of advice on any medicine you take.

That is just silly, now why would anyone want to talk to their doctor, when they have so many experts on CM to ask? I mean really, who would you trust?

I was pretty sedated still when the nurse gave me the scripts...wasn't in the right state of mind to be asking questions. LOL They released me 45 minutes after the colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy.

I talked to my GI doctor today and got him to take me off the Carafate. But he increased my Bentyl to 3 times a day to be taken 30 minutes before meals.
