A little off topic hijack here....but it just seems to fit.....

I just got a notice in the mail today that my Platinum MasterCard which I have had for 15 years (always in good standing) will be going to an interest rate of 29.99% come January. They have cordially given me the option of "opting out" of the increased rate though. If I opt out I can use the card at the current rate of 18.9% until it reaches it's expiration date in 2010 at which time they will cancel it.

So it's either pay their loan shark rates or shop around for a different card.....hmmmm....looking in the mirror I don't see "stupid" anywhere on my forehead so....yeah....time for a new card and they can piss off.

OMG.  you actually read it?

they count on most to overlook it.   Ild guess other cards will follow suit.

funny how plastic can be gold and platimun,,,,,

When the clerks ask me if I want their card, I just lie and say I already have one.  1) they have nowhere else to go with that argument, and 2) it's kind of self-satisfying to make them wonder why I'm not USING the card to make my purchase.

I should add the fact that I often carry a zero balance (as it currently is) though, through any average year I will have a balance from a couple hundred $ to maybe $2000, a couple times each year....but always paid off in a timely fashion. So that really makes me wonder what kind of game they are playing. Like I said though....time to find a new card issuer (with a more realistic interest rate).
