ORIGINAL: Aneirin Looking in the Firefox forums, many it seems are reporting slow running, freezing and crashes, but unless you are au fait with programming, the solutions are pretty useless. I have just run my security software and the online scanner Trend Housecall, no problems reported, yet I still have problems with Firefox. I just hope it is not another vista problem. Freezing and the report, ''Mozilla Firefox not responding'' is a daily occurance. The only way out is to close the browser and restart. The most annoying problem is where one happens upon a website that won't load, the error page, I dread those, as it is as if the browser falls down a deep hole and can't get out, no amount of clicking, double clicking and repetitive double clicking will get the browser to go backwards. Oh, I have already tried reinstalling, same crap. I've used Firefox for years now... practically from the beginning. Occasionally when they've had new versions come out, I've had minor problems, but those are usually fixed pretty quickly. I did have reason to cuss up a storm and start checking out new browsers when Firefox 3.0 came out... it was crashing right and left on me, several times a day. Because I do much of my work online, this was not good. After much research (and trying out a few new browsers), I finally went back to Firefox 2.0 and then made sure it was set to NOT update automatically. You can find all the earlier versions here. Since then, I have updated to 3.0 and have been very careful about what add-ons I use. It's been a few months now and so far I haven't had any problems. I do believe it was the plug-ins that were causing issues for me. You might disabling your add-ons, then carefully enabling one at a time (giving it a day or two before the next) to see if you can determine if one of them is the offender.
